Megabus Offers a Week of Free Bus Trips for East Coast Cities - May 30 through June 5 - NY, Philly, AC, Boston, Buffalo, Toronto, Washington DC

I blogged once before about Megabus, which offered a whopping 100,000 free bus rides to introduce their service in the U.S. (they're a Scottish company that started offering bus service on the West Coast and Midwest -- their U.S. division is based in Chicago). Now they're going to offer East Coast service, and to celebrate, they're offering free bus rides their Eastern routes from May 30th to June 5th.

I had read an item from the Philadelphia Business Journal that discussed Philadelphia-New York being free that week, and I visited the site and checked on a roundtrip June 1-3 to verify that the fare came back as free (there is a 50-cent booking fee applied but why quibble?) It was indeed free!

But since they haven't had an East Coast presence before and now will service a bunch of cities I checked their site further to see if the promotion includes other cities. They'll now have service to Boston, Atlantic City, Buffalo, Toronto, and Washington DC as well as New York and Philly.

And sure enough, New York-Boston roundtrips during that week were showing as free, as were New York-Washington DC. New York-Toronto or Buffalo-Toronto were free, and the same went for New York-Atlantic City and New York-Buffalo. Wow!

Fares have to be booked on-line at Megabus.com and there is a 50-cent booking free. The fee is per transaction, so booking several round-trips together is still just 50 cents.

I have a feeling these will get booked fast, so if you have some need to travel between some of these cities that week, I'd head over to Megabus post haste. If you know people who live in some of these cities, forward them this blog post and spread the travel fun. Here's the link.

Free bus travel -- you can't argue with the price!

Free Swingline Optima Desk Stapler

Could you use a nice stapler for your desk or home? Wouldn't getting one free be nice?

If you can spare a couple of minutes completing an on-line survey about what items Swingline should include in a desk toolkit, they will send you a complimentary Optima Desk Stapler, retail value about $20.

It's really that simple. The survey just asks you to check off boxes on whether your need for a tool is low, medium or high, for things like staple removers, screwdrivers, envelope moisteners etc. I guess they're trying to develop a complete desk toolkit and want to include what people find most essential. It took me about a minute or two to complete.

The stapler they send is not a cheap model. It is selling for $19.99 at Office Depot, and here's a description: "breakthrough design delivers jam-free performance for every staple from the first to the last staple on the strip. Increase productivity with 25% greater capacity than standard desktop staplers when Swingline® SF4 staples are used. Staples up to 25 sheets of 20lb paper with Swingline® SF4 Staples. Die cast metal design for maximum durability. Enhanced soft-feel materials for stapling comfort. Positive tacking latch for secure stapling position."

If you'd like to take the survey, click this link. I'd hurry on over, since I don't know how many surveys they'll take before they close the offer.

Free -- what a wonderful word!

Thailand: Bangkok and Phuket Combo Trip -- 6 Nights Hotel, Breakfast & Roundtrip Airfare from LA from $945 and Up

Things seem to go in cycles, and after posting one exotic destination (Tahiti) last night, here's another deal that hit my e-mail today from Sherman's travel newsletter: Thailand. The package combines three nights in the very exotic Bangkok, with three nights at the island of Phuket. For travel during May, they have packages including roundtrip airfare from LA starting at $945. Taxes/airport fees etc. are additional and add about another $360.

That's a pretty nice price to let you explore the temples, history and culture of Bangkok and visit the beaches of Phuket.

They have packages departing from other US cities, and you can choose various hotels to customize your stay to your travel style (although prices would vary).

So if you've had a dream about visiting Thailand, why not see if this helps your dream come true? Click on this link for the offer details.

Sansa Recertified MP3 Players - 1GB $13.99, 2GB 19.99

Update April 8th: The 2GB unit is still on sale, albeit for $21.99. The 1GB is out of stock.

So you want to pick up an MP3 player but aren't so sure that you want to get a top-of-the-line item like an iPod or a Zune? Maybe there's a youngster who wants to listen to music and they are prone to losing things so you want to let them have one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

The two units on sale at Buy.com right now are recertified, but for these low prices I figured they were worth posting and you could decide whether to take a flyer. They have the Sansa C140 (1GB) on sale for $13.99 and the C150 (2GB) for $19.99. Each of these has an MP3 player, FM receiver and voice recorder built in.

In addition to playing music recordings, these are able to play Audible files if you want to use them for audio-book purposes.

There are a lot of reviews shown for the 1GB unit, most of them overwhelmingly positive. The 2GB one has only one review and that one just complains a bit because it uses AAA batteries, not about the functionality -- I would figure the 1GB and 2GB are basically similar with just a difference in memory.

Shipping is free for either of these units.

So if you want to make a move into MP3s (or want an inexpensive spare), take a look at these. Click on the photos below to go to buy.com.

C140 (1GB):SanDisk Sansa C140 1GB MP3 digital player/recorder/radio - recertified C150 (2GB):SanDisk C150 2GB Portable MP3 Player Color LCD Display / FM Tuner / Voice Recorder -Recertified

If you order one of these today, check my earlier post about the woot.com deal for a carrying case and make it that much better an overall deal!

Ipod/MP3 Carrying Case - 2 for $1 Plus $5 Shipping on Woot Today

If you own an iPod or a similar MP3 Player, today's Woot is for a carrying case made by Nike that could keep your device (and the headphones etc.) more organized when you travel.

These are hard-shell cases with pockets/sections organized with MP3 players in mind, and because it's Tuesday, Woot makes it a two-for-one offer, so you end up with two of these. If you read the comments on the site, many people are buying several so they can use them to protect other small electronic gear when traveling (such as GPS systems, very small cameras, etc.).

It has a water-resistant polyurethane case, a padded divider for your iPod/MP3 and a spool keeping your headphones tangle free, a cargo net storage pocket, and a zipper pocket for small valuables. Dimensions: 4.125" W x 5.5" H x 2.75" D.

These sell for $29 at the Nike site, so this price is really rock-bottom. Shipping is the same $5 whether you order 1, 2 or 3 pairs of these carrying cases.

Woot, about which I blogged many months ago, is a site that sells just one particular item a day, until they're sold out.

So if you might be able to use this kind of carrying case, whether for an iPod, Zune, MP3, or for other small electronics when you travel, you may want to get to woot.com while they're still in stock.

Chicago/Indianapolis Roundtrip $57; Chicago to KC, Cleveland, Louisville or Omaha $107 Roundtrip

Travelocity has an airfare sale announced for Chicago (and Denver too although I didn't see any amazing deals for Denver on the list). They have a roundtrip fare for Indianapolis of $57, which is probably less than the cost of gas to drive round-trip. They also have Kansas City, Cleveland, Louisville or Omaha listed for $107, which also look like good prices. Travel is on United Airlines.
The fares are valid for travel through the end of May, have to be booked by March 28th and require 14-day advance purchase.

If you're around any of these Midwest cities, this might be a nice price for that next quick trip. There is a long list of other sale fares for other cities connecting with Chicago and Denver, so if you have travel plans to either of those, you may want to check these fares. Just click the link below.

Free Baseball Card Giveaway March 29th

Gearing up for the 2008 baseball season? (Well, the Red Sox and A's have already played one regular-season game in Japan.)

Fans will be able to sign on at mlb.com/cards that day and receive a free pack of cards. Each pack will contain five base cards from Topps, five base cards from Upper Deck, one chase card from Topps, one chase card from Upper Deck, and one informational card.

Also that day, participating hobby stores will be giving away a pack of baseball cards just for the asking. Toys "R" Us has announced they'll give away packs that day.

So if getting some free baseball cards might tickle your fancy and get you ready for the season, circle March 29th on your calendar.

Fort Lauderdale to/from Latin America a Penny Each Way!

Spirit Airlines is doing another round of their penny super-sales on certain flights/dates between Fort Lauderdale and the following places in Latin America: Panama City, Panama; San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Managua, Nicaragua; San José, Costa Rica and Guatemala City, Guatemala. On certain dates in April and May they have seats available for just a penny (plus airport/security fees/taxes as with any airfare).

They also have some fares to Cartagena, Colombia for $29 each way as well.

I've been able to fly on Spirit for these penny airfares, and can attest that they're for real. The service on the plane was fine (although you pay for anything beyond a glass of water), and you do have to pay a fee to check baggage. But even with those kinds of add-ons, the penny fares are an amazing bargain if you can land one of those seats.

These fares have to be booked by Wednesday, March 26th, but they'll go fast so if this looks like a trip you'd like to make, hurry on over.

Kingston 4GB SDHC (High Capacity) Card $9.95 After Rebate

Looking for a high-capacity SD card to hold all those files, music, pictures or whatever? Right now, Adorama is offering the Kingston 4GB SDHC Memory Card for $19.95 with free shipping. There's a $10 rebate for purchases until March 28th, making the final net cost $9.95. That's a really nice price for a 4GB card.

Before you spring for one, check the documentation for your device to make sure it is SDHC-compatible. Not every device that uses SD cards can take these high capacity cards.

Here's the link to the item at Adorama.

Nextar Portable GPS with MP3 $114.99

Yesterday I wrote about the advantages of portable GPS systems, and today up pops a sale on a unit that may be worth checking out. It's the Nextar P3 GPS with MP3 Player, and buy.com is selling it right now for $114.99.

I haven't used this unit personally, but the reviews at buy.com and epinions.com seem to be positive.

It has a 3.5" screen, stereo speaker, U.S. map with 1.6 million points-of-interest (i.e. gas stations, restaurants). The GPS doesn't have text-to-speech, although one reviewer said it does give the names of major highways. It also has the capability of being an MP3 player, if you use an SD card to add music.

If you're on the lookout for a basic GPS with MP3 flexibility, this one may be worth a look.

Portable GPS Systems (Don't Order an In-Dash System When You Buy a Car) - Navigon GPS On Sale Now at $119.99

I've seen a few friends who've gotten the GPS systems built into the car dashboard, and while they look slick, I think you're paying way more than needed and getting a lot less usability. The way portable GPS systems have come to market, you'd be better off not having a system installed in your car but going for one of the smaller portable systems.

With the portable GPS systems, you get to choose a system that meets your needs rather than just taking the kind offered by the car manufacturer. And with the variety of models and levels available, you can find those that fit your needs. For some people, it's important to have text-to-speech, so the device tells you the name of the street onto which to make the turn. For some people, having it speak in a foreign language might be nice (my parents' native tongue isn't English, and perhaps a GPS that can give directions in Polish would be easier for them to use). You can get them with larger or smaller screens, depending on how important the visual is, compared with getting the directions in audio.

But having a portable one also gets you some additional flexibility. When you travel, you can bring your unit along and have it available in a rental car. First it saves money from having to rent one from the rental company (if they offer it). But it also lets you travel using one with which you're already familiar instead of wasting time learning how the rental company's unit works. After all, do you really want to spend a part of your vacation figuring out how to program a different GPS to find your destination?

A portable unit can even be used when walking around a town. If you're walking through a neighborhood and want to find out the location of, say, the nearest Chinese restaurant, most units have lots of points of interest loaded and can give you their address and distance from your current position. The GPS in your dashboard can't help you while you're taking a stroll.

As maps and points of interest get updated, the portable units allow for simpler updating with the new information, something you can do at your own PC. I'm not sure how an in-dash GPS would be updated but I'd be surprised if it's quite as straightforward (or if it's something you'd need to have the dealer do).

Finally, the best reason to stick with the portables is the price. They've come down a lot, and since there is always competition not just between the manufacturers but also between electronics stores, sale prices will often be available.

Right now there is a sale at Office Depot on the Navigon 2100 GPS system for $119.00. This is the system I purchased last Black Friday (the 2100 system on sale is the basic GPS and has an option to also subscribe to traffic reports so the device can suggest alternate routing). I've been very pleased with the performance of my Navigon. The GPS positioning has been accurate. It includes text-to-speech, so it tells me that a turn/maneuver will be coming up and state the name of the road onto which I'm making the turn. At major highway intersections, it includes a visual representation of what the road signs will look like (which can be nice if you're traveling on unfamiliar highways and want a more accurate idea of which lane to follow). It's small and easy with which to travel. Occasionally it is quirky (it always indicates it will take longer from my home to a destination because the two roads near my house are programmed in as 10 mph instead of 35 mph) but I really like this one. If you're looking for a fairly basic unit that still has a good feature range, I'd say the deal at Office Depot is a nice price. Here's the link for that offer. If you're closer to another store such as Staples (where the unit is currently priced at $199.99) you can ask them to do a price match.

I also own a Mio 310x system (that was my first GPS, and I got it at about half retail doing a price match at Staples with a coupon too). This one also has a nice feature set, although it doesn't have text-to-speech (it's just says 'turn right in 50 feet'). However, this one has 26 language choices (Italian, Polish, Greek, so many more... even English with a British accent), it includes a MP3 player so you can listen to your choice of music in between it giving you directions, it's customizable with how you want distances described (yards/feet, kilometers/meters). At the time I bought it, users complained about the maps being out of date, but Mio released an updated map to solve the problem.

The 310x is no longer their base model (although you can sometimes still find them on eBay). They now sell the Mio 220 at the base end and the 230 as the step up with text-to-speech. I haven't tested these but I would presume much of the functionality of the 310x has been kept in these newer models.

Other popular names of portable GPS systems are Garmin, Tom Tom and Magellan. They all have their own followings, and each one seems to have its own advantages. That's the best part of shopping for a portable unit. You can really compare the models, see which best fits your personal needs and then check various stores and sales to see how to get your own best price.

Grocery Clearance at Amazon -- Sales Plus $10 Off $25 Purchases, Free Shipping

I've posted previously about Amazon.com as a source for savings in the kitchen and for items you'd normally buy at the supermarket. I've had some great deals on coffee beans, and I also once bought soap in bulk that saved me oodles.

Right now till April 7th, Amazon.com has a promotion going on with a wide variety (200+) of grocery items. Many of them have some nice price cuts. And if you purchase more than $25 worth, you can use the promo code CLEARMAR and get back $10 off your order. And since $25 qualifies you for free shipping, that's included as well.

Some of these are popular brand names and products that you'd easily recognize from your regular grocery shopping, like Kraft salad dressings. Others are items that are more unique and may be much harder to find shopping locally (i.e. coconut water).

When you buy them, you should keep in mind what the shelf life is for any item so you don't buy more than you can use while it's good. But if there are items of interest, this could be a great way to make those grocery bucks go a bit further.

To check on the specials, click Amazon Grocery Event.

Happy shopping!

Price Matching Does Work

If you do virtually any shopping on-line, you've probably noticed that many sites have some sort of price guarantee. This isn't only limited to shopping on-line, either, since many larger retailers do the same thing in stores. It does pay to be aware of these offers, because they offer you opportunities to be creative with your shopping. You can end up with a nice savings that's below what was originally being offered in the first place. You can also have a local merchant match a price that can save you the time (and gas) to drive to a competitor much further away -- nowadays you have to factor in the cost of the trip to the store, it's getting to be that expensive to drive!

Sometimes the guarantees are just a general "we'll meet or beat any advertised price." Other stores offer a more specific "110% price guarantee" where they will drop the price by the difference between their and the competitor's and then tack on another 10% of the difference. In that case you've gotten an even better price than where you started.

My most recent case of price matching involves purchasing a high-quality juicer, which I had seen at a health seminar for $500. I noted the model number and did some on-line price-checking, and found prices ranging from $419 to $459. But I also noted some sites saying they couldn't mention anything below $419 since that was the "minimum advertised price." Those sites asked you to send in your e-mail address and they'd give you their special offers.

I wrote to a couple of them and they were returning prices in the $380-$390 ranges. I also noted that one of the sites had a note on the website that they would beat any competitor's quote by $15. So I sent them the quote with the special unadvertised price. Sure enough, they lived up to their pledge and offered to beat that by $15. So I was able to purchase this juicer for $365 (the regular price at their website without any price-matching offer was $439, so they were giving me $74 off their normal price).

Price matching works best when you are dealing with items that have specific model numbers which are sold by a variety of retailers. When a GPS system was on sale at Circuit City a while ago, I knew that Staples sold the same model, and they did the 110% price match, giving me a better price than if I had driven further and gone to Circuit City (and I also got Staples Rewards points for making my purchase there).

If you have some stores that are favorites, it's probably worth a bit of time to check their websites and see what their price-match policies are. Some sites make them very easy to see (shoebuy.com has their 110% price guarantee near the top of their webpage), and for others you have to check out their customer service links for information. But once you know they're there, you can use them as part of a shopping strategy. Just one more tool in the battle to keep more bucks in your own pocket.

See "The 39 Steps" on Broadway for $39

Like Broadway Theatre? Like a Bargain? Well, how does seeing a Broadway play for $39 sound? The play "The 39 Steps" is opening a run at Broadway's Cort Theatre April 29th. They have unleashed an offer of 39 seats for every performance to be sold at $39. Just for some perspective, tickets are regularly $98.50, so this is nearly a 60% savings.

Here's a quick description of the show from their website: Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have "The 39 Steps," a fast-paced whodunit for anyone who loves the magic of theatre! It was a huge success in Boston, in London, and at Broadway’s American Airlines Theatre, where ecstatic reviews gave it the momentum of a runaway train! Now, by popular demand, this rollicking entertainment for the whole family is making its next triumphant move - six blocks uptown to the Cort Theatre! Same unbelievable cast, same unbelievably funny show.

As you can imagine, these specially priced tickets will go fast, and they've set up a way you can search for a range of dates to see if there are tickets available. Just click here and it will search for your choice of a specific date or check for $39 tickets for any range you specify (i.e. any date from May 1st through June 15th). If there are tickets available, you can buy them on-line (there are some service charges added).

There's also a second offer with a promotional code for discounted tickets of $49 for Tuesday-Thursday performances, and $59 for Friday-Sunday shows. The promo code for this level of discounted ticket is 39TCX39. To use the promo code, click here (the code has already been entered) and then click on find tickets -- the popup will show it is searching for $49/$59 tickets. Or you can call 212-947-8844 and mention the code 39TCX39.

For all these discounts, they are available for seats through performances of July 6th. Sales on these are final and they have no refund/exchange.

If you love theatre, thrillers and laughs, this looks like a nice ticket!

HP Ink Cartridges Discounted

Inks are the hidden high-cost item with printers. I've never gone back to the 'compatible' brand of cartridges ever since one of my printers stopped working after I tried one. I stick with the original manufacturer's ink cartridges which means usually paying high prices unless you stumble across a rare sale on them. Buy.com has some great prices right now on HP cartridges in twin-packs, so if you use any of these inks, you may want to check them out.

Although buy.com is showing amazing discounts from the list prices, I compared them to what you'd be paying at Staples so you can compare real-world prices.

HP No. 56 Black Cartridges, Twinpack
- $24.99 (Staples $35.99)
HP No. 57 Tri-Color Cartridges, Twinpack
- $41.99 (Staples $62.99)
HP No. 94 Black Cartridges, Twinpack
- $23.99 (Staples $35.99)
HP No. 97 Tri-Color Cartridges, Twinpack
- $39.99 (Staples $62.99)

So as you can see, the prices at buy.com can save you some nice bucks. These are the name-brand HP cartridges, not some cheap imitation or refilled cartridges.

Shipping on these is free as well. So if you use any of these HP ink cartridges in your printer, why not save a little the next time you have to change ink?

Free Rita's Water Ice Giveaway Today (March 20)!

If you have a Rita's Water Ice location nearby, you can celebrate the arrival of Spring on them! They're giving away a free regular-size water ice to everyone who stops by today. Really!

If you read the press release, they expect to give away a half-million cups free today. The estimated 500,000 cups will require more than 5 million ounces of Rita's Italian Ice. That's the equivalent of 160 tons of snow or 106,667 snowballs. Melted it would be equivalent to 42,968 gallons of water -- enough to fill two backyard swimming pools or 859 bathtubs. It could be formed into 9,470,000 ice cubes, which, if laid end to end, would stretch more than twice the distance between Rita's hometown of Philadelphia and Baltimore, Md.

The job will require 2,600 Rita's employees and 15,000 hours to make the ice and fill the cups so you can see this is a big undertaking.

Rita's Italian ices are available in more than 25 different flavors -- from the traditional favorites like cherry and lemon to the new Cappuccino Cream Ice and the "Xtreme" flavors of Wild Black Cherry, Citrus Blast and Green Apple.

Rita's locations are throughout the East Coast and as far west as Ohio (sorry, all you Californians out there).

So get a nice welcome to Spring for free today! My Postmaster loves these ices, so he must be on cloud nine today...

Logitech Webcam for Notebooks $10 After Rebate

I like when I can post a deal about a product I've used personally and like. Buy.com is offering the Logitech QuickCam Deluxe Webcam for Notebooks in Silver/Black for $40.00 which is about $20 off the retail of $59.99. And they have a rebate offer for purchases until March 26th for another $30, making the final cost to you a nice, low $10.00 (free shipping on this item).

This webcam has a very nice feature set, easy-to-use software, a very handy little size for travel needs (with a travel case included), good video and audio performance. When we've used it for Skype calls or to record some webinars it's done a very nice job. So if you are in the market for a small but powerful webcam, I think you'd be happy with this one, in my opinion.

Apple 3rd Generation iPod Nano (with Video) Recertified -- $99

Update April 21st - The special price had expired but now it's back down to $99.99. And if you use Google checkout for the first time, you can save another $10 off.

I usually don't write about recertified/reconditioned items. I guess I have a bias against them wondering if they had an issue once, maybe they'd have an issue again. But I figured I'd post this one, because I have a feeling a company like Apple can be a bit more trusted when it comes to recertified products. For people looking to get an iPod with video, this price seems quite nice. Right now, buy.com has the recertified 4GB 3rd Generation Nano (which plays videos as well as music) for just $99.

It's showing as the number-1-selling item on buy.com, so their stock may not last long.

The 4GB Nano holds up to 1,000 songs, 3,500 photos, or 4 hours of video. The battery life allows you to watch up to 5 hours of video or 24 hours of music on a single charge. Its larger, 320-by-240-resolution display is 65 percent brighter than earlier video iPods and is just 6.5 mm thin. The unit comes with a 60-day warranty but with many electronics such as this, they pretty much work right out of the box or don't so that should be enough time to put it through its paces.
So if you've been looking for a video iPod to pump up your personal entertainment quotient, click on the image to check it out further. Remember, they have limited stock so don't delay...

4GB Compact Flash Card $12.95 After Rebate

For digital cameras and other electronics that use compact flash cards, the need for memory can be bigger than ever based on all the megapixels and large files. It's nice when you can save money on a card with a high memory capacity. Here's a nice price on a 4GB card if you're in the market. Buy.com is selling the Dane-Elec 4GB Compact Flash card for $31.99 (lists for $79.99) and have a $19 rebate for purchases until March 26th. There's free shipping on this item, making the final cost a very palatable $12.95.

Although the rebate is valid till the 26th, I don't know how long buy.com will have this reduced price, so if the deal is a good fit, I'd take advantage quickly. Click on the picture for more info or to buy it.

Lake Tahoe Resort -- Premium Room $59 a Night (Sundays through Thursdays)

Lake Tahoe makes a great escape from the West Coast and there's still plenty of time to get in some great skiing. And if you can stay at a terrific resort at discounted rates... well, that seems to add up to a great deal. The MontBleu Resort is offering a special of $59 per night from Sundays through Thursdays, which is over half-off their usual rates. AND in the process they're throwing in a free upgrade to a premium room, which would normally cost an extra $30.

The special $59 is valid until May 22nd, with just April 11th and 12th excluded. If you want to stay over a Friday or Saturday night, those nights are available for $129 (still below their regular charges). The deadline for making reservations at these discounted prices is April 2nd.

The Montbleu (formerly Caesar's Tahoe) has six restaurants, six bars/lounges, a renovated casino and poker room, spa, indoor pool and a Jacuzzi. All Premium Rooms feature an in-room Jacuzzi and Aveda bath products.

So if the slopes are calling and a trip to Tahoe would fill the bill, click here to check availability at the Montbleu.

Philadelphia/Fort Lauderdale $78 Roundtrip -- Other Cities with Low Fares to Florida, Mexico, Bermuda on USA3000

If winter isn't ending fast enough for you and you need to get down to Florida for some warmer weather, USA3000 has a promotional code that can get you an extra $20 off roundtrip airfare, making for some great travel deals. Their sale fare from Philly to/from Fort Lauderdale is just $49, so the promo code makes it $39 each way! Travel dates are April 1 through June 13 and tickets have to be purchased by March 24th.

I took advantage of a USA3000 Philly/Fort Lauderdale promotional code in December, and having my feet in the ocean in mid-December was a nice break from early-winter. Their service was fine on my flight and I had an easy time checking in.

They service a bunch of East Coast cities as well as some throughout the Midwest, so if you're east of the Mississippi you may want to check them out. Here are some samples of one-way fares after the promo code is applied:

$39 -- Philadelphia to Ft. Lauderdale
$49 -- Pittsburgh to Ft. Lauderdale
$69 -- Newark to Ft. Myers (service ends in April)
$89 -- Baltimore to Bermuda (service begins in May)
$89 -- Detroit to Cancun, Mexico
$89 -- St. Louis to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
$89 -- Chicago to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

These fares are after applying the promo code and there are the usual taxes and security/airport fees added on.

The promo code is GREEN. To see their special fares and to book a flight, click here. Near the top right of the webpage you'll see a link that says 'Click here and check the Flexible Traveler box.' On that page you enter the departure/arrival dates/places and don't forget to put GREEN in the promo code box.

Note: Pricing will not include the $10 off each-way discount until the end. This sale is valid on select travel dates, so flexibility is key to get the best fares. The final price will include air taxes and fees -- and the $10 you saved each way.

Hey, if you can combine this deal with the Spirit Airlines penny fare dates from Fort Lauderdale to Latin America from my earlier post, you could really luck out and fly to Florida and on to Latin America for less than $40 each way! Wouldn't that be something?!

Penny Fares from Florida to Latin America -- Have to Book Today!

Spirit Airlines has a one-day sale going on, with fares from Fort Lauderdale to saveral Latin American destinations for just a penny each way. Seriously!

The fares are for flights on specific dates, with destinations including San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Managua, Nicaragua; San José, Costa Rica and Guatemala City, Guatemala. They also have fares to Cartagena, Colombia on certain dates for $29 each way. There are taxes and airport/security fees in addition to the fares, and seats are limited so you would want to check these ASAP. They have to be booked by midnight tonight.

These kinds of offers are for real. I was able to get roundtrip tickets last year on Spirit from Atlantic City to Las Vegas and Atlantic City to Fort Lauderdale for a penny each way and had two 2-cent roundtrips!

So if you're anywhere near Florida (or can get there for the right dates), you can visit Latin America for a bargain!

Restaurant.com Promotion Code for 50% Off ($25 dining certificate for $5)

Restaurant.com has unleashed their latest promotional code for an extra discount off their dining gift certificates. The code is SAVINGS and it is valid until March 23rd. That brings the cost of a $25 dining certificate down to $5, and a $10 dining certificate down to $1.50.

Restaurant.com certificates are a great way to try new restaurants or visit a favorite place a bit more often. Certificates are valid for a year after purchase. Most come with some conditions about using them (i.e. minimum 2 entrees, minimum amount of check, etc.) but they usually can be met without eating any more than you'd typically order.

I've written about them in the past, and they are a fan favorite, so if you want to check out any restaurants without draining your wallet, this may be a way to help.

Don't forget to enter the promo code SAVINGS in the box in your shopping cart, so you can see the savings before you place your order.

70% Off Crayola Color Explosion Glow Board -- $10 (lists at $32.99)

Sparking creativity in youngsters is always a great thing, and here's an offer that might give them another creative outlet. Amazon.com is offering the Crayola Color Explosion Glow Board for 70% off the list price of $32.99, knocking $22.99 off and making it just $10.00. If you add it to some other Amazon purchases and bring your order over $25, it's also eligible for free shipping.

The Amazon customer reviews about this product are highly positive. It comes with six vibrant neon markers, which can be used to draw on either of the two drawing surfaces. Once the drawing is complete, kids can illuminate the colored inks with the touch of a button, as the board's lights give the ink an intense glow. The board's surface is reusable -- ink erases in an instant -- making it good for hours of fun at a time.

There's an easel back to prop the board in place to display the artwork. You can choose to display one layer, or flash between both for an exciting billboard-like effect.

Although it's marketed as a kids' product, one reviewer thought it could be useful in a business environment too: "This gadget should be marketed to small businesses -- it is an excellent low-cost way to create a simple eye-catching message that is easily changed. It's doing wonders for our Broadway theatre."

Click Crayola Color Explosion Glow Board for more details.

A colorful deal that lets you keep some more green in your wallet -- which is always nice!

Free Custom Printed Door Magnet for Your Car

Update March 27th: The offer is still valid, despite earlier info that it was expiring March 22. Perhaps it's good through the end of March.

Vistaprint is a really terrific print shop that offers people a great chance to order products for free to see how they like them (and hopefully order more later). I've posted before about free business cards, refrigerator magnets, rubber stamps, T-shirts and more, but here's a new one: Free Car Door Magnets.

These are great for any business that wants to be able to stick their business name/number on the side of a vehicle but remove it when it's inappropriate or unneeded (i.e. when you park your car in a residential zone, some cities don't allow signage). Or maybe you want to create a sign to support some sort of project, school or whatever.

Vistaprint is offering their smaller size car door magnet (still a good sized 11.25"x8.5") for free, with just a shipping charge of about $4 (expedited shipping is available but my experience has been that the lowest price shipping usually arrives well before their estimated date).

There's no obligation to buy anything further.

They have templates for all kinds of businesses so you should be able to find something that matches easily. You could also design something custom and upload it but that involves an extra printing charge. And with their templates you should be able to make one of their designs work well.

If you haven't ordered from Vistaprint, you should also check their site for other items they have available for free. The T-shirts are nice quality, I've liked the business cards I've seen, and the rubber stamp is a nice freebie too.

To check this offer for the car door magnet (valid till March 22nd) click Free Car Door Custom Magnet.

If your car can help spread your message, why not?

Three Cross Ion Pens for $12.50 with Free Shipping

Cross has long been a well-liked name in writing instruments. Right now they have a nice sale on their Ion pens at their website. Unlike their traditional, very slim pens, these will appeal to people who like a broader pen to hold when they write.

There are two different sets of three pens apiece available, each set on sale for $12.50, reduced from $50. These pens sold for $25 individually (the $50 price was getting three for the price of two), so you're getting three for the price of a half a pen!

If you add the code SPRING08 to the order you even get the shipping for free!

The pens use a gel ink for a nice, smooth writing style. One of the sets has pens with silver and black metallic finishes, and the other has metallic colors. Click the links below to check out the two sets.

Discounts on Three Musicals in New York City - 45%-60% Off

The folks at Travelzoo are great at finding offers not just for airfares and hotels but also great things to do when you travel. For those of you in New York City (or vacationing there) who enjoy musical theatre, here are three offers you may want to check out:

"Chicago the Musical" at the Ambassador Theatre: 45% off tickets for shows through April 6th (no Saturday nights, and no shows March 18-23). Hurry for this deal as tickets have to be ordered by March 15th.

"Mamma Mia" at the Winter Garden Theatre: Up to 45% off tickets for shows through March 30th (Saturday nights $10 extra, and some row exclusions March 22-23). This deal also expires March 15th.

"I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" (Off-Broadway): 60% Off -- $29.50 for tickets priced at $75.00. For performances through March 31st, except Saturday nights.

For all these offers, you pay a service fee through Telecharge, but you would pay that fee whether you buy tickets at the discounted price or the regular price on-line or by phone.

I went to check for tickets for "I Love You..." and if you went to Telecharge directly the price was $75 but going through Travelzoo's link indeed got the same tickets for just $29.50. So use the links if you want to take advantage of these.

So while your toes are tapping during a performance, they may tap a little lighter knowing you got a nice deal to see the show!

Golfers: Free Alignment Aid with Initials Printed on Golf Balls with Purchase of 3 Dozen

This one is for serious golfers (I'm a par 3 whack-and-hack type so this is beyond what I need). Having a printed alignment aid on your golf ball may end up in a straighter, truer shot. Combining it with your initials would help make picking out your ball that much easier. Right now till March 25th, Golfballs.com is offering to print an Alignment and ID Combo on your golf balls if you order 3 dozen. Use the promo code LINEITUP at checkout to get the IDAlign printed free.

Their site has a wide variety of brands and models, so chances are good that your favorite kind of ball is available. If you don't have a preferred brand, I arranged a search by price in the link below, with balls available as low as $11.95/dozen.

Here's the link.

Step up, plant your feet firmly, address the ball... Hello, Ball!

Foot Locker, Champs and Footaction are all offering a 30% off coupon for use in stores March 14th through 16th. 4GB SD High Capacity Card for $12.95!

If you're on the lookout for a memory card with even more capacity to use with your digital device, how about 4GBs worth of memory for $12.95? This is the kind of price I was posting on the blog for 1GB and 2GB cards not so long ago, so $12.95 is quite low for a card of this capacity.

Buy.com is offering the Dane-Elec 4GB Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) card, which retails at $79.99, on sale now for $30.95 with free shipping. Then they have an $18 rebate for purchases good until March 18th, bringing the final cost down to $12.95.

This SD card isn't necessarily compatible with every device that uses an SD card, though. It's for those devices that are SDHC-enabled, so before you take the plunge, check the specs of your digital camera, MP3 player or other device to make sure it can handle SDHC.

Deal Available Now -- 30 Roses Delivered for $21.99

1-800-Flowers.com has a deal going on which can get you a multicolored bouquet of 30 roses delivered for just $21.99. Considering they usually sell it for about $60 plus delivery, this is a nice price.

When you go to the roses at their website the price shows as $30.00 for the bouquet or $40 with a bouquet plus a glass vase. There's a delivery charge of $11.99. Then if you apply the promo code xxxx (yes, the promo code is the letter 'x' four times), they knock $20 off the price so the final total comes down to $21.99. That's pretty amazing for thirty roses delivered.

The deal seems a bit quirky and may be dependent on the number of orders placed locally where the recipient lives, the date for delivery. I tried an order being delivered Friday and it didn't work but then tried it for Thursday and it did. Different areas have some different results so you may want to check on it quickly before it dries up.

The $11.99 charge is for deliveries Tuesdays through Fridays, other days incur a higher cost.

Here's the link.

A sweet smelling deal... I hope it works for you!

The original price was $169, and they have it discounted to $39.99. That's already a nice price, but if you apply the code CH50 at checkout, you get an additional 50% off, making it $19.99.

The coat comes with a faux-fur collar that is detachable, so you can choose to wear it either of two ways.

It has a review that seems to indicate that it's fairly lightweight, so it may not be for the coldest days, but with Spring approaching this may be a nice addition to your wardrobe.

Amazing Music Deal for Fans of Nine Inch Nails - Download 4 Albums (Ghosts I-IV) for $5.00!

As a way to get their music out to fans more affordably, Nine Inch Nails is making the 36 tracks from Ghosts I-IV available for download for a total of $5.00. They have it on their own website but reports are that it takes a wile because of the high traffic hitting the site. So Amazon is also offering the same tracks downloadable for the $5.00 price.

The works are all instrumental, and most of the reviewers on Amazon are quite positive. You can preview the music at Amazon and read the reviews to decide.

If you're looking to expand your music collection and this suits your taste, four albums of MP3s for $5.00 is a wonderful deal.

Free 2GB USB Bracelet from Microsoft and Novell

Novell and Microsoft are offering some information on a collaboration between the two companies, and the information is delivered on a 2GB USB bracelet which they will send you free.

The collaboration is to make Windows and Linux more interoperable... for many of us, the information on the bracelet won't be critical, but if you can get a 2GB USB drive for free, that's a nice offer.

From the site: "The ground-breaking collaboration between Novell and Microsoft is delivering solutions that will reduce the complexity and increase the ROI of your mixed-IT environments. Solutions that will enable you to create a dynamic data centre with bi-directional virtualisation, allowing you to increase performance, savings and simplicity and build your data centre without compromise." They are offering a 2GB Moreinterop USB bracelet, pre-loaded with more information, including a video and Gartner Report. (subject to availability)

You have to provide them some contact information, some details about your company and potential need for a project, but registering doesn't take long.

Here is a link to the page that announces the offer.

2GB for free - always nice.

Yada-Yada-Yada! Seinfeld Season 9 DVD Set 60% Off at Amazon

If you are a fan of Seinfeld, you might want to hop over to Amazon.com for a nice price on the Season 9 DVD set. The regular retail is $49.95 and they've got it right now for $19.99, 60% off.

Since it's less than $25, you don't get free shipping if that's all you order, but you can probably do a search for something else you'd like or need to bring your order over $25 and get the items shipped together for free.

I figure with the couple of thousand laughs you'll have from Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer, you're paying less than a penny a laugh!

Amazon drops prices for only short periods, so if this is your thing, you might want to jump on the deal. Just click Seinfeld - Season 9

Epson 5"x7" StoryTeller Photo Book Creator -- Make Your Own Photo Book Free After Rebate

Half the fun of taking digital photos is being able to turn them into fun projects... and right now Circuit City is making it easier with a discount/rebate combination that makes a Photo Book Creator free after rebate! The product is the Epson 5"x7" StoryTeller Photo Book Creator. It usually goes for $17.96, but Circuit City has dropped the price on-line to $13.96 -- and there's a $13.96 rebate for on-line purchases, making it free after rebate.

You order it on-line and pick it up in the store. The rebate is good for purchases till March 15th, but I doubt they'll be in stock that long (free-after-rebate items often sell out).

The package lets you make a hardbound book with glossy photo paper and includes software to help you complete the project.

If you'd like to create a book with your photos, this might be a fun way to get the project going.
