Backpack with Solar Charger Plus Cup Warmer and Stereo Headset for $59.99 After Rebate

Have you own solar power right on your back! Buy.com is offering the Av Lab Solar Backpack Charger together with a cup warmer and stereo headphones for a combined $79.99 with free shipping. There's a $20 rebate for purchases until July 7th, making the final cost just $59.99.

Looking elsewhere for the backpack alone, it's running in the $110-$120 range, so the package deal is a nice price (buy.com shows the retail value as $179.99).

*By the way, today's the last day for buy.com's google checkout $10 bonus, so if you've never used google checkout before, you can get another $10 off the price (making the final cost $49.99).

This unique solar bag absorbs the sun's energy through a solar panel and turns it into electric energy. Embedded in the outside of the bag is a lightweight, tough, waterproof solar panel which will generate up to 2.7 watts of power. Included in the bag is a battery pack which stores any surplus power generated, so it is available when you need it, not just when the sun is up. The power bank can also be charged by using an AC travel or car charger. Ni-MH battery charges in 6-8 hours (via solar) or 2-2-1/2 hours (via a/c charger) and has a maximum output of 5.8V DC (400mAh) and a capacity of 1200mAh.

It's compatible with most small mobile devices through corresponding connectors and includes universal plugs for different types of cell phones.

The additional two items appear meant more for home or office use, not so much to take along in the backpack for outdoor use: The stereo headset is great with your laptop or PC to deliver high-performance stereo sound from music, games, movies, and more, and features a noise-canceling microphone that is perfect for the use of voice chat and voice command. The USB-powered cup warmer with a 4 port hub can keep a drink warm while powering other USB devices.

The backpack is the main feature of this package, and if you have a need for some extra power while traveling, backpacking or camping, this might be an interesting solution.

Free Schick Quattro Titanium Trimmer Powered Razor/Trimmer

Here's a slightly off-beat or weird way to get yourself a free razor: Schick has a promotion where you load your face onto a website and place it into a silly movie about a pillow fight. After you do that and save the movie, you can enter contact information for them to send you a free sample of a Quattro Titanium Trimmer Powered Razor/Trimmer.

A few months ago, they offered a free sample of a non-powered Titanium Quattro, which I've tried and been really pleased with -- it gave me one of the best shaves I'd gotten from many brands I've tried. So I am looking forward to seeing how the powered version does.

Just as a bit of warning, the movies are a bit on the risque side, as far as two members of the opposite sex in bed having a pillow fight with you, and the sounds also make it something you might not want to do at the office. There are scenes with choices for women and men, so either way you can have a little innocent fun and get a razor in the deal.

Their site actually lets you upload any picture with your face and then they have step-by-step ways to trim the picture so just your face is left.

If you'd like to give it a try and get the free Schick razor, click this link.

Kids' Size Adidas Soccer Ball $6.37

If you could use a bit of equipment to keep the kids active and outdoors over the summer, amazon.com has a cool-looking adidas F50 Xite Soccer Ball on sale for $6.37. It's available in size 3, which is 23- to 24-inch circumference, weighs 11-12 ounces; generally used for children under the age of 8.

This ball can be used on all surfaces, this is a very control-friendly ball if your youngsters are seriously into the sport. Its panel shape with a unique mix of triangles and diamonds provide a smooth kicking surface to ensure consistent accuracy and power. But it's also a fun design with wavy, futuristic graphics.

For durability, it's constructed of 30 percent thermoplastic polyurethane, 60 percent thermoplastic elastomerics, and 10 percent polyester. Polyurethane (PU) soccer balls have a synthetic material that feels like leather, but are scuff- and water-resistant. At the core is a butyl bladder, which offers many of the same properties as latex but does not stretch. This makes the ball feel harder and have a lower bounce, and stay inflated longer. It also has a glossy coating for additional protection.

If you make this part of an order totaling $25 or more, shipping is free (maybe you want to add the Harry Potter 7 Deluxe Edition I posted yesterday as well as a couple of other fillers).

So, hey, if a soccer ball or two might help keep the summer more fun, why not take advantage of this deal for a quality ball?

Las Vegas Rooms - Hooters Casino from $37; Stratosphere from $30

A couple of days ago I wrote about a nice offer at the Venetian in Las Vegas that's tied into the high temperature of the day so you can get rooms normally about $169 for about $100. That's one way to spend your time in Vegas, in the lap of luxury. If you want a lower-cost, lower-frills approach, here are a couple of deals you might want to check.

Travelworm has listed a deal at Hooters Casino with prices as low as $37 a night. If you want to go a little further north on the strip, Travel Ticker has the Stratosphere for as low as $30 a night.

These rates are for particular midweek days, and weekends are higher as with all the Vegas resorts. These offers are available for stays through the end of August. The most-discounted prices at Hooters are for stays of three nights.

The Stratosphere offer must be booked by July 8th. Hooters doesn't show a specific deadline.

These deals also come with some extras, particularly the one at the Stratosphere:

Stratosphere bonuses:
- resort fee waived
- free admission to the tower at certain hours
- two-for-one drinks in the Romance lounge
- $10 in match play
- $5 off an all access ride pass
- free admission to Polly Esther's club before 11 p.m.
- two tickets to the American Superstars show
- a Funbook worth over $150 in extras
- 20% off spa services ($50 minimum)

Hooters offer:
- discount Coupons valued at over $100
- join Owl Rewards Club and receive $200 in free slot play (select machines)

The package is being offered through Cheap Caribbean.

8GB USB Flash Drive $19.99 After Rebate

Last night I posted about a nice deal for a 4GB drive, but for anyone looking for a small drive that packs even more memory, buy.com is offering the OCZ 8GB Diesel USB Flash Drive for $34.99, and it offers a $15.00 mail in rebate that's good for purchases until July 2nd. Shipping is free, so that makes the net cost $19.99.

That's a lot of memory capacity for not a lot of cash.

One more thing... buy.com is about to eliminate their $10 off a $10+ purchase if using google checkout for the first time (the last day they'll offer it is June 30th). So if you've never used google checkout and want to save $10 extra, this might be a time to take advantage. Thus if this would be your first google checkout, you would knock your order cost down to $24.99 and the final after-rebate cost would be just $9.99.

At either price, it's still a nice price for a well-sized USB drive. To take a look, click the picture below.

Another Coupon for a Free Thomas the Train

Recently I posted an entry about a coupon at Toys 'R' Us for a free Thomas the Train, which was valid until July 5th (here's a link). Well, they have issued another coupon you can print on-line for a free wooden Thomas the Train item that's valid today through Thursday, June 26th.

It's valid in Toys 'R' Us stores for Thomas the Tank Engine, Harold the Helicopter, Rheneas Engine or Musical Caboose Engine.

As with the other coupon, you only get one chance to print the coupon, so when you open the link, be ready to print it out right then. If you close it without printing you don't get a second chance to access the coupon.

Here's a link to the new coupon.

Restaurant.com Promo Code - 60% Off Plus Free Bonus $10 Certificate

I mentioned in my last post about restaurant.com that their promo offers often get better toward the end of the month. The downside is that a few popular restaurants may have their certificates sold out. But the upside is that the savings get really dramatic. Right now there is a promo code that not only gets you 60% off their regular price (which makes a $25 dining certificate cost just $4) but they also add a bonus $10 certificate to your account.

So you're getting $35 in dining credits at restaurants for just $4. Or if you buy a $10 certificate and get the bonus, you're getting $20 value for $1.20.

The promo code is MEALS, and it's valid until June 30th.

My experience is that the bonus gift certificate is per order, so if you're planning to purchase more than one certificate, it's worth doing on separate orders to maximize your bonuses.

For those of you new to restaurant.com, you purchase a certificate that entitles you to a dining credit off your check of $25 or $10 (the $10 credit ones are typically for lunch time). These certificates come with restaurant-specific restrictions -- they can be the number of entrees ordered, the minimum check before the credit, exclude alcohol from the check or certain days of the week. But they're typically fairly reasonable to achieve and can represent a great chance to try a new restaurant or have another night at an old favorite.

If you look at the savings, let's say your check comes out to $36. You pay $11 and the balance with your restaurant.com certificate of $25 which really only cost you $4. Thus your $36 meal was yours for a total of $15. You should still tip on the full amount of the check, of course.

The extra $10 bonus certificate is another nice benefit you can use to have a nice lunch locally or when you travel. There are restaurants all over the country which participate.

To visit restaurant.com, check out their participants and maybe place and order, click here. Don't forget to enter the MEALS promo and hit the 'apply' button so the savings show up in your cart before you submit the order.

Virgin America Fare Sale through June 25th - Coast-to-Coast Airfares from $312 Roundtrip; West Coast Flights on Sale Too

Travelocity has issued some great fares available for travel on Virgin America. The way fares have been escalating with the higher fuel surcharges, these might be worth booking if you have some summer travel coming up. They offer fares of $156 each way between New York and Los Angeles or San Francisco (or from Washington DC to/from those west coast cities).

They also have some nice fares in the Western states, such as Seattle to/from San Francisco for $76 each way, or San Francisco to/from Las Vegas for $66 one way.

The fares have to be booked by June 25th, and are valid for travel on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays between now and June 30th, and then again from July 9th until November 19th. Blackout dates of August 29th and September 1st apply.

Airport/security fees are in addition to the fare prices shown.

These prices are higher than what we've seen in the past for roundtrips, but at the current price of fuel, they're still within reach if you have any vacation plans, business or family trips coming up.

Talk is Cheap, Low Fares Speak! One-Way Flights from $66+ with Virgin America > Expires 6/25/08 takes you to the list of special fares.

Barenaked Ladies Are Me (Deluxe Edition) Full Album Download of 27 Songs for $2.99

If you want to build up your music library and add a bunch of Barenaked Ladies songs, amazon.com has a full album download of a deluxe edition of "Barenaked Ladies Are Me" at $2.99 for the entire album.

Buying the individual tracks at 99¢ would run you almost $27.00 so getting the album is $23.74 less. Or like paying for three tracks and getting twenty-four for free.

You can preview the songs on the website before you decide to buy.

To check out the list of songs and see if you want to take advantage of the album download deal, click Barenaked Ladies Are Me (Deluxe Edition)

Webcam for Notebooks Free After Rebate (Add an Item for Free Shipping)

If you want to pick up a webcam for you laptop without having to spend much, OnSale.com is offering the Logitech QuickCam for Notebooks Deluxe for $45.00, and they're offering a $45.00 rebate on purchases until June 30th.

Here's a link to the webcam so you can see more details. I've not used this model of webcam but have used other Logitech ones and been quite pleased with performance, software etc.

They would charge shipping of about $7.99 on this, but they also have an offer to rebate UPS shipping if you purchase eligible items totaling over $49.00. Since this webcam is so close, you can search their items to see if there's a small useful eligible item you could add that brings the total over the $49.00 threshold. And make sure you choose UPS Ground shipping as your option.

One such item could be a Kingston 1GB Flash Drive for $7.95. If you add this to your order, your total would be $45 (webcam) + $7.95 (flash drive) + $8.99 shipping = $61.94 and you'd get rebates totalling $53.99 making it a net of $7.95 for a webcam and a flash drive delivered.

Without adding the flash drive, your net for the webcam alone would be $7.99 delivered. So it's basically like having them add the flash drive to your order for free!

I'm just suggesting the flash drive as a suggestion; you could certainly search for other accessories like memory cards etc. As long as it's eligible and over $4.00 it gets you the shipping for free after rebate.

If your notebook could use a webcam (i.e. to add Skype video-calling to your life), this might be a good opportunity.

Savings on Top of Savings - Amazon Grocery Clearance Plus Promo Code for $10 Off $25+

One way to make your money go further is combining two types of savings offers -- such as using coupons inside stores for items that are on sale. I've written before about using amazon.com as a source for items that you wouldn't ordinarily expect. They have a clearance sale going on for a wide variety of grocery items such as coffees, breakfast items, snacks and more. Some items are available for savings of 30% or even more. But they also have a promotional code that gets you $10 off when you spend $25 or more on eligible grocery clearance items. So you can end up with combined savings of 60% depending on the items you purchase.

The $25 amazon free shipping offer gets calculated before the promo code, so the items get shipped to you for free as well.

The code to apply (and you must enter it and apply it) is GROCJUNE.

There are way too many choices of items for me to give a complete rundown, but it might be worth your while to check out whether they are clearing out items you keep in your pantry.

After all, in these days of escalating food costs, every strategy to keep down costs can come in handy.

To see a list of eligible items, click Amazon Grocery Clearance.

Here's another page that shows a different variety of items but from either one you can go to following pages to see more eligible items: Amazon Grocery Clearance (Alternate View)

And remember to bring your order over $25 and then apply code GROCJUNE.

1GB MicroSD Card with Two Adapters Lower than Free After Rebate

Update July 7th - the price had gone up to $19.98 but is now back to $10 with a $10 rebate. I ordered one and have received it -- it's a nice versatile card with 2 adapters. I don't know if the promo code still works to make the card less than free after rebate, but it would still be $10 less a $10 rebate at worst. So you would pay nothing more than shipping... and if the promo code of 20% is still accepted, you get a $10 rebate on a card for which you pay $8.

If you're looking for a versatile 1GB memory card, Palm has a nice deal going for a 1GB microSD card that also has adapters to allow its use in MiniSD or regular SD devices. They are reducing it from $19.99 down to $10.00 and there's a $10.00 mail-in rebate that brings it down to zero after your rebate. You can also add promotional code PLMREG at checkout to knock 20% off and make it just $8.00, making the post-rebate cost a negative $2.00.

Shipping is $2.99 but getting it for a net 99¢ is a nice bottom-line price for a 1GB card that will be useful for all sorts of devices. The rebate is valid for purchases until July 23rd.

Here's the link to the 1GB microSD Card.

Suites at the Venetian in Las Vegas for ~$100

Many of my deals on hotels, particularly Las Vegas, have focused on resorts where you could find the lowest overall prices. But if you wanted to stay at something more upscale, there's a promotion going on at the Venetian for stays on many dates this summer. They are tying in your suite rate to the high temperature of the day. So you can get a suite for somewhere in the area of $100.

Considering the standard rate is $169, this is a sweet price for a luxurious way to stay in Vegas.

This special Celebrate Summer at the Venetian offer has to be booked by June 27th. Their site shows the monthly average high temperatures and which days are covered. Sometimes it's just midweek, sometimes even Fridays are included so you can see how the calendar coincides with when you want to visit.

The fine print indicates the exact rate for the day would be determined by the forecast high for the day as posted on weather.com as of 10am that morning. But based on the monthly high averages, many of the dates could be expected to be in the $100 range.

It's an unusual promotion but even if it's a little warmer, you are still getting the room for at least 33% off. From my visits to Vegas, the Venetian is really an outstanding place to stay and enjoy some beautiful decor and ambiance. Walking through their shopping gallery is like an outdoor stroll through Venice, and being able to ride in a gondola is a great way to add to the enjoyment.

The site also offers some options to upgrade your suite if that's something you want to add to the experience.

To check out more about the promotion and see if you want to visit Venice in Las Vegas this summer, click this link to the Venetian.

You can book on-line or over the phone if you mention promo code EVTMP08.

Restaurant.com Promotion Code for 50% Off ($25 dining certificate for $5)

Restaurant.com has their latest promo code active, good for 50% off their usual prices for restaurant gift certificates.

The promo code means that a certificate good for $25 worth of dining at a participating restaurant (normally $10) is just $5, and a certificate good for $10 of dining (normally $3) is just $1.50.

The promo code this time is SIZZLING, and it's valid until June 22nd. So if you want to pick up some certificates, you can get them for a pretty good deal.

One tip: some months, restaurant.com unveils additional codes later into months that get you 60% or sometimes even 70% off, so you can consider whether to bite now or wait till later and hope there's a better code coming. Some restaurants do only have a limited number of certificates and can sell out, so that may be a consideration, as well as if you want to order a certificate to go out in the next few days.

If you're unfamiliar with restaurant.com, you can click on their name in the blog's Topic Index in the left column to read some earlier posts that explained the details.

To go to restaurant.com and see their wide array of available restaurants, click this link.

Fly Miami to Lima, Peru for $289.06 Roundtrip

If you want to make a visit to Peru, it's possible right now to get roundtrip airfare as low as $298 roundtrip. That's a fare that's available on LAN Airlines right now. And if you book on-line, they'll take a 3% discount off the fare, bringing it down even a bit more to $289.06

The fare can vary a bit by day of the week and such, but that's what the roundtrip price showed as for a departure of July 9th and a return July 16th as an example. Lowest fares appear to be for travel on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.

The site also shows fares from New York for as low as $738 and from Los Angeles from $866 -- but you might be able to book a flight separately to Miami at a better price than the difference... I would think you could find New York-Miami for less than $440.

Airport/security fees are added onto the fare as with all airline tickets -- my search showed the fees on this ticket would be $70.30 for a final total of $359.36 roundtrip!

These low fares have to be booked by June 23rd and purchased at least 6 days before departure. Travel has to be completed by October 30th. You can stay as little as two days or as much as 3 months.

So if you want to make a visit to Lima and experience Peru, this price may make it more possible than usual. To search for flights, dates, etc., click this link to LAN.

7-Night Greek Cruise including Airfare $999!

Have a hankering to explore some of the great sites in Greece? Would you like to do it with some of the comforts of a cruise ship to get you from spot to spot? Right now, Friendly Planet has a cruise available that includes roundtrip airfare and a 7-night cruise that allows you to explore Athens, Corinth, Delphi, Olympia and more, with a price as low as $999 for a December 6th departure. A February 13 departure is available for $1,099.

Some highlights of the package include:
- Roundtrip nonstop airfare from New York City to Athens via Olympic Airways
(discounted airfare from other cities is also available)
- Arrival and departure transfers
- 7 nights aboard the newly refurbished easyCruise Life
- Stops in Athens, Corinth, Olympia, Delphi and more
- Daily breakfast and dinner aboard the ship
- Onboard amenities include restaurant, bar, spa, fitness center, pool, sundeck
- Housekeeping charges and all port charges and fees

You can tour the sights along the cruise on your own, but they also have an optional 6-day tour program for $299 per person (includes 6 guided tours and 3 lunches).

When you consider the cost of the airfare, the price of the cruise is really eye-opening. It's almost as if you're getting the cruise as a bonus for flying there!

The typical airport/security fees for any airfare would be additional. To get this low price, the booking has to be made by August 15th, but if it's the right thing for you, book soon so the sailing doesn't sell out.

City pairs that have $17 airfares:

7-Night Alaska Inside Passage Cruise - Oceanview Cabins from $749

Update June 26th -- They now show a price of $749 for Oceanview on the July 26th sailing, even lower than the original offer. The July 19th sailing is $849.

If an Alaskan cruise is on your list of travel to-do's, Orbitz is listing cruises on Holland America's Statendam ship with oceanview cabins available at $799 for a July 5th sailing and a bit higher for later sailings in July.

The cruises have a 7-night itinerary that depart from Vancouver, travel to Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan, cruise Glacier Bay and return you to Vancouver. The price is the same for an inside cabin or oceanview, so why wouldn't you take advantage of the oceanview price and have a bit more time to gaze at the beautiful vistas?

The price includes shipboard accommodations, ocean transportation, entertainment and daily activities, on-board meals and some beverages, port charges and more. It does not include shore excursions, personal expenses, gratuities, or alcoholic beverages. Government fees/taxes are additional.

According to Orbitz:
The Statendam features impeccable service, mouthwatering cuisines, and relaxing nooks and beautiful art displayed thru out the ship.
The intimate reservations-only Pinnacle Grill offers an elegant dining experience with selected cuts of beer, seafood dishes and an extensive wine list.
The Van Gogh Theater is themed after the Dutch artist’s paintings “The Starry Night” and “Irises” and features a computerized fiber optic lighting.
Past guests rave about the beautiful public rooms such as the theatre, Crow's Nest and relaxing Explorer's café.

Pharos 150 Portable GPS with Text-to-Speech $99.99

If you are in the market for a GPS and want to have text-to-speech capability (where it pronounces the street names as opposed to just saying "turn left here"), amazon.com is currently offering the Pharos 150 Drive GPS system for $99.99, which is half off the list price of $199.99.

I'm not sure how long the price drop will last, but some reviewers wrote that this is the price they got on Black Friday so it's way down there. Shipping is free.

The unit is receiving very high reviews on the amazon website.

Hybrid DC/Solar Charger for Small Electronics $18.99

If you travel outside a lot and carry small electronics like cellphones, MP3 players, Blackberry etc., keeping them powered can be difficult if you're away from a power source for any long length of time. Right now, Golden Gadgets is selling a hybrid solar charger for $19.99 (usually $24.99). But if you add an optional iPod/iPhone adapter, the price in the shopping cart becomes $18.99 (don't ask me why... I just tried the deal and that's what came up for me).

They call it hybrid because it has two ways of capturing the power you can use when you need to recharge your electronic device. It has solar panels that charge in about 8-10 hours for times when you're on a camping trip, fishing etc.. It also can be charged with a DC connection which charges the unit in 4 hours. So you can charge it in your car before a day or two of hiking, camping etc. and have the power stored in the unit for when it's needed.

It comes with charging tips to fit a variety of devices -- mini-USB, USB, Motorola, Nokia, BlackBerry, and an optional iPod/iPhone Adapter (but as I said, you want to take this option since it saves you a buck). The unit is made of molded plastic to keep it light for easy mobility and has a built-in 2000 mah Lithium ion battery inside.

So if you have a use for some extra charging capability when you need your electronics and you're not near standard power charging, this may offer you some needed flexibility.

To get the 18.99 price in your shopping cart, go to the bottom section of the product screen and in the options box, click on "+1 iPOD/iPhone."

If you prefer a 2GB capacity, they have that available at $10.95.

Sometimes I wish I coulkd improve my own memory plugging something like this in my ear!

Anyway, if you want to take a look at the specs and maybe buy one or two of these, click the picture below (the 1GB is first).

This must be the week of Staples coupons for $25 off a $75+ purchase. They have yet another code available that knocks $25 off if your merchandise total is over $75. Today's code is 16071.

The code is valid for anything other than desktops or laptops, and can be used on-line or by phone. But hurry, it expires tonight at midnight.

If you're looking for an interesting way to maximize some savings, you can even end up with more back in your pocket than you spent, by purchasing a free-after-rebate item. If you have some anti-virus/firewall/internet security software on your PC, you can get McAfee Internet Security 3-user for $59.99 which actually qualifies you for $65 in total rebates ($35 from Staples and a $30 upgrader rebate from McAfee for prior users or users of competitive products). To get your order over $75 you can find a couple of other useful items that total over $15.01 -- I found a package of 50 slim CD cases on sale this week from $21.99 down to $8.99, along with some files folders for $6.99 I could use. I applied the coupon code and it brought the total down to $50.97 (plus local tax), with free delivery since it's over $50.

Another Style of Teva Outdoor/Camping Shoes $14.99 with Free Shipping Code

Update August 4th -- I got my Teva Ryleys a while back and noted that they run small. I had to return my pair and get a half-size larger. I thought that might be worth knowing if you plan to order. They still have many sizes available.

Update June 23rd -- The fee next-day shipping code is expired. But they have a new code TEVAADVENTURE08 that gets you $10 off a $50 purchase plus free shipping. You would need to buy several pairs to make it work, but if you like these or have a family with several size needs, it might be worthwhile...

A few days ago, I posted about some Teva shoes for camping and the great outdoors. Right now they're also selling out their Ryley style shoe which has a funkier style. These shoes had been retailing for $70.00 but Teva is clearing them out at $14.99.

And if you select Next-Day shipping and use coupon code LastChance608, you get overnight shipping for free.

The shoes feature:
- Men's upper: durable suede
- Women's upper: combination canvas and leather upper
- Post-consumer recycled PET canvas lining
- Mush® EVA Sockliner with recycled PET cover
- Vulcanized rubber toe cap
- Wraptor™ Fit Technology with quick snap for easy entry/exit
