Clearance Items at Staples: Spa Set, Digital Grill Thermometer, Rachael Ray Cookbook Set, Memory Foam Pillow, Business Totes

Every once in a while when you look at Staples clearance items, they sell things you wouldn't expect to find there. One of my readers told me she took advantage when they were selling a gardening tool set several months back about which I blogged.

Right now, they have clearance prices on a bunch of items that may appeal to people -- some of them could be great as stocking stuffers for the holidays. They have:
- a six-piece spa set reduced from $19.99 to $5.90
- digital grill thermometer is also $5.90 from $19.99
- a pair of Rachael Ray cookbooks for $16.90, reduced from $32.00
- memory foam pillow reduced from $39.99 to $9.90
- a business tote reduced from $39.99 to $12.90
- a travel set reduced from $59.99 to $29.90

Shipping is free if your order exceeds $50.00 (or if you are a Staples Rewards Premier member), so the deal works best if you order a few items. Or you can tack on some needed office supplies like paper, printer ink etc. to reach the $50 limit.

Quantities of these are limited, so you might want to check them out quickly. To see the items, click this link.

Megabus Expands Service -- Fares from $1

Megabus.com, which offered 100,000 free bus rides a number of months back (I know a few of you took advantage), is expanding their service to include 4 new East Coast cities to its route list: Albany, Rochester, Syracuse and Niagara Falls (Ontario). Fares start at just $1 each way and offer direct service to New York City, among other cities.

This special $1 fare applies to all cities that Megabus services -- including Boston, New York, Washington, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlantic City, Toronto and others. Travel is valid for trips beginning any time after Dec. 4, but hurry if you want to grab the the $1 seats -- they're limited per route. As the $1 seats sell out, the next available pricing tier will appear, anywhere from $5-$30. These are still great prices, but if you can grab tickets at $1.00, isn't that better?

The specially priced tickets have to be booked by November 7th. Click here to visit Megabus.

"Young Frankenstein" on Broadway Up to 54% Off

If you're in New York or planning a visit, here's an offer from Travelzoo for Mel Brooks' Broadway Musical, "Young Frankenstein." They have a variety of tickets available for various performances through November 23rd at up to 54% off.

For Dress Circle and Orchestra tickets (regularly $120), you can get discounts at the following performances:
- Wednesday matinees -- Dress Circle $55; Orchestra $65
- Tuesday-Friday evenings -- Dress Circle $60; Orchestra $70
- Saturday & Sunday matinees -- Dress Circle $70; Orchestra $75

Balcony tickets regularly go for as much as $80, but you can get them for only $45 at the following shows:
- Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday matinees
- Tuesday-Friday evenings

There is a service fee added to the cost of tickets booked on-line or by phone. These seats may go fast, so if you want to see this fun show, I'd suggest booking quickly. This promotional price must be booked by November 7th.

To purchase tickets, click here, select the date and time you'd like and click "Find Tickets." Select the number of tickets you'd like and the price ($120 for Orchestra and Dress Circle seats or $75/$50 for Balcony seats) and enter code TZOO2 in the "Promotions and Special Offers" field. Then click "Look for Tickets."

Or to book by phone, call 212-307-4100 and use code TZOO2.

If you're near the box office and want to try getting tickets in person and save the service charge, here's the link to the Travelzoo item you can print and bring to the box office.

Buy.com is offering the Iogear GearJuice Mobile Pocket Charger for $24.99, half off the retail price of $49.99. What's more, they have a $10.00 rebate for purchases by November 2nd, making the final net cost $14.99. Budget shipping is free for this item.

If you are on the lookout for a USB flash drive with good capacity and a bit of flare, here's one from the well-regarded Kingston brand. Buy.com is offering their 4GB DataTraveler flash drive for just $9.99, a very nice price for 4GB of memory. Free budget shipping is included in the price.

The basic color of the drive is black, but it also includes six skin designs so you can give your flash drive a bit of personality. The designs included are: redhead mosaic, bamboo, sunflower, lace, retro and tangerine dream. Plus, two blank skins are included to let you create your own design.

This DataTraveler's design is not only expressive, it's also built with simplicity in mind. The capless design houses the USB connector safely inside the case and easily retracts with the thumbaction slider.

Wood Finish 7" Digital Photo Frame $39.99

If you're looking for a digital photo frame with a stylish look, you may want to check out one being offered right now a buy.com. They have the InVion 7-inch Digital Photo Frame w/ SD card slot in Wood Finish available at $39.99. The deal includes free budget shipping. That's about $20.00 less than most sale prices I've seen for frames this size.

The title says wood finish but I would doubt it's actual wood (the listing doesn't show specific details) -- but the wood look may complement your decor better than some of the clear plastic or stark white/black.

With the holidays coming up, this might make a nice gift idea -- you could also buy an SD card (I've had them frequently on my blog), load it up with family photos and give someone a slideshow they can display with happiness at home or office.

To take a look, click the picture below.

Roundtrip California/New York at $155 Including Taxes/Fees

Looking for a trip between the coasts? Delta has a special price available right now between JFK in New York City and either LAX in Los Angeles or SFO in San Francisco. Depending on the dates you choose, you can get the flights for a roundtrip total of $134.00! If you find a non-stop itinerary, your taxes/fees are as low as $21.00. That makes your final total a really low $155.00!
These fares aren't valid during holiday periods, but I just did a search with flexible travel to leave on a Tuesday (November 18th) and return on a Tuesday (December 2nd). The search results gave me multiple non-stop flights I could choose that day which had this fare available.

This isn't an advertised sale so I don't know how long this fare will last. But if you have coast-to-coast travel plans coming up, it may be worth heady over and taking a look at Delta.

Important Update for My E-Mail Subscribers

Those of you who subscribed to e-mail updates for my blog postings have probably noticed you're not getting any updates for the last week. The website which was sending out these e-mails has gone under.

I've activated a different e-mail updating service through Feedburner, which should prove to be more reliable. The downside is that they send out only one e-mail per day - the reason I had originally chosen SendMeRSS.com was that they were supposed to send e-mails out within two hours of every post. I had thought that would get the news of deals to you more quickly. But they ended up not as reliable as I'd hoped and now they're not sending out anything.

Unfortunately, this change will mean that people who subscribed to the old service will need to re-subscribe (I don't have acess to all your e-mail addresses or I would do this myself). There's a new link in the top left column that says "Subscribe by email." Click on that, enter your e-mail and the validation letters and you should get back on board.

Sorry for the inconvenience, but I hope you'll subscribe anew and keep reading these deals and ideas.

Disney Lunch Totes 68% Off at $2.99 -- Two Styles Can Be Personalized Free

The Disney Outlet is offering five styles of lunch totes discounted from the regular $9.50 down to $2.99 this week. The lunch totes include Pirates of the Caribbean, Jungle Fury Power Rangers, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel and Princess.

The Pirates and Power Rangers totes can be personalized (up to 12 characters) for free, making them even a cooler tote for your child.

Unfortunately, free shipping doesn't kick in till your order exceeds $89, so the shipping charges will apply -- if you have more than one child or want to get more than one tote, the shipping charges won't eat up so much of the bargain value. But if this is something your kids might like, click this link to check them out.

Restaurant.com Promo code - 80% Off Till the End of October

Restaurant.com is giving us an early Halloween treat with another promotional code, this one good for 80% off the regular price of their discount dining certificates.

So using this code, you can get certificates for $25.00 worth of dining credit at participating restaurants for just $2.00! That's a whopping 92% total saving off the first $25.00 of your check when you eat out.

As I've written before, the certificates come with conditions assigned by each restaurant (i.e. minimum check of $35.00, or minimum of two entrees, etc.), but for most restaurants, the conditions are what you'd normally meet if you went out to eat anyway. Certificates are valid for a year after purchase and can be used once a month at any particular restaurant.

Remember to tip your server based on what the check would have been, not what the final total is after applying the certificate.

The promo code valid until October 31st is TREATS -- enter it on the checkout page and hit the 'apply' button to make sure the savings show in your cart before you complete the checkout.

Enjoy your next meal out while knowing your wallet is enjoying it a bit more than usual! Go to restaurant.com to look for participating restaurants nearby (or somewhere you're traveling).

Wardrobe alert! Right now RSVP shoes are all on sale at 6pm.com. All cut to one low price: $9.95!

They have tons of styles for women, including dress shoes, casual styles, sandals, slippers and even boots. Plus this low price is also on shoes for kids -- from toddler on up.

They have over 3600 women's styles available -- wow! Original prices for some of these shows were $100.00, so this sale can save you up to 90%!

There are also about 225 kids' styles available -- for some reason the search for kids' shoes includes some women's styles in the results. But they have plenty of shoes for infants, toddlers and youth sizes too. Some of the kids' shoes retail for $75.00, meaning you get a savings of 86%! With their growing feet, you may want to pick up a few pairs they can grow into...

As I've written before, 6pm.com makes searching for shoes easy by size, showing just the styles in stock in your particular size(s). They charge $6.95 to ship, but it's free if you order over $100.

Newark to Belize $133.10 Roundtrip Including Taxes

Update October 27th -- this fare price has expired...

This is an unadvertised sale so I'm not sure how long this price will stay as low as it is at the moment. American Airlines is offering roundtrip airfare from Newark to Belize City for an incredible base fare of $60.00 roundtrip. Taxes, security and airport fees add on $73.10 making the cost of your roundtrip airfare an eye-popping $133.10. That's about $300-$400 less than the usual lowest airfares you'd find on this route.

Weekends and holidays are more expensive, but they have low fares available through June 2009. I was able to find this price on flights in late February and early May, and the best way to find the lowest prices is to use the flexible travel date search, which shows the price for all the dates in each month.

If Belize is a trip you might want to take, you might want to hurry over to aa.com. The code for Newark is EWR and for Belize City it's BZE.

Restaurant.com Promotional Code for 60% Off -- $25 Dining Certificate for Just $4!

Restaurant.com has really been rolling out the promotional codes lately. Thanks to one of my readers, here's their latest which entitles buyers to get 60% off their dining certificates. So a certificate for $25.00 of dining credit which regularly costs $10.00 can be yours for just $4.00. A $10.00 dining certificate that usually costs $3.00 is now just $1.20.

They indicate they've gotten some new certificates in, so you may want to check and see what nearby restaurants have them available. Remember to check the conditions for using the certificate at the particular restaurant (although I usually find the conditions fairly easy to meet).

The code for the savings is MORE -- enter that at checkout and then click 'apply.' You'll see the savings in your cart before you check out. This code is valid through Sunday, October 19th.

To go to restaurant.com and see what participating establishments are in your area, click this link.

Columbia Shoes Up to 70% Off at Amazon.com

Today must be outdoors day. I posted earlier about a great deal on Timberlands, and I checked my e-mail and there was a message from amazon.com that they have a sale going on with Columbia brand shoes. Savings are up to 70% on various sandals, running shoes and rugged shoes for outdoor wear.

With some styles the savings vary by size. The shoes are eligible for free shipping if your order exceeds $25.00.

Unlike the Timberland sale, I'm not sure how long the discount is in effect, so if you're interested in checking it out, I'd do it quickly. Just click up to 70% Off Columbia Shoes for their full selection.

All Timberland Shoes $49.95 or Less at 6pm.com

With cooler temperatures upon us and winter approaching, rugged footgear is a must. If you're looking for solid, warm shoes and boots, you know Timberland is a brand that'll handle the elements well. Right now until October 20th, 6pm.com has cut the price on all their Timberland shoes to $49.95 or less.

Their website makes it easy to find the styles available for you, by doing a search by just your size. That way, you're not looking through all sorts of different pairs, only to find that the one you want isn't available in your size.

I've shopped with 6pm.com and been pleased with their service and also with their return policy. Shipping is $6.95 per order, but it's free if your total exceeds $100.00.

The bag is available in red, lime, orange, blue and black. The listing doesn't show the measurements, but it sounds from the description as if this is a small unit good to bring papers and such around -- it doesn't seem like a laptop bag except for the newest 8.9" units. Here's the description:

"Large capacity capable of carrying all the catalogues and souvenirs collected at the convention. Additional features include an organizer pocket for cards, pens and notes under the flap, a mesh pocket on the side for a water bottle, and a clear business card holder on the back."

Restaurant.com Promo Code for 70% Off -- $25 Dining Certificate for $3

Well, our friends at restaurant.com are back with their latest promo code, good for 70% off the purchase of dining certificates. Regular readers already know that they sell certificates for dining at thousands of restaurants around the country. The regular price for these certificates is $10.00 for a $25.00 dining credit (some restaurants also have lunch certificates valid for $10.00 worth of dining which normally cost $3.00).

So with the coupon code, you can purchase a $25.00 certificate for an amazingly low $3.00! A lunch $10.00 certificate is an almost absurd 90¢ -- unbelievable!

Each restaurant puts their own conditions on the certificates, but my experience has been that they are fairly easy to meet. Certificates represent a great way to try out a new restaurant or revisit an old favorite without putting too much of a dent in your wallet. They can also be great as gift ideas, or as a treat for kids away at college.

The promotional code, valid until October 13th, is SAVE. Make sure to enter it at checkout and hit 'apply' to see the savings applied to your certificate purchase.

If you want to check out the restaurants in your area, visit restaurant.com and take a look.

Cool! Great In-Car iPod Interface by Harmon Kardon Just $18.99

If you have an iPod you'd like to listen to inside your car, Harmon Kardon makes a great control system that lets you access songs and features much easier. It's the Harman Kardon DP1US Drive + Play in Vehicle iPod interface control system. And right now, Buy.com has slashed the price way down, from the retail of $149.99 all the way down to just $18.99 (with free shipping as part of the bargain).

If you know electronics and sound systems, you're familiar with the Harmon Kardon name for quality units. And the Drive + Play handles the iPod so well that it was given an Innovations Award at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show. At this price, you'll really want to check it out.

This isn't just an iPod adapter — it's a complete digital music control system for your car. The system's backlit LCD display mounts up high on the dash for easy visibility while driving (use appropriate caution when driving, of course). And since it matches the display on your iPod — with the same menu style and general layout — you already know how easy it is to jump between songs and artists.

But the Drive + Play system isn't just about an on-dash display. There's also a Text Commander Controller to handle file navigation with ease and elegance. Shaped like an oversized mushroom, this remote mount command center works just like the click wheel on your iPod — just press the outer buttons to play, pause, fast-forward, or reverse, and twist the knob to scroll through the menus. You can install it on your center console for a handy, easy-to-reach controller.

While your iPod is connected to the system, you'll be able to control every aspect of playback — from track selection to playlists. And best of all, the Drive + Play will charge your iPod battery while it's in use. (While the audio portion works with any iPod featuring an iPod dock connector, this system can charge any iPod except 4G Nano, 3G iPhone, 2G touch and 120GB Classic).

The central "brain" unit can be mounted out of the way in the glove box or under a seat, and a built-in wireless FM transmitter lets you play the iPod through your vehicle's FM radio. If your stereo has an auxiliary input, you can connect the Drive + Play's audio output to it for the best possible sound performance. The Drive + Play also offers a pass-through auxiliary input for connecting an additional component to your stereo system.

All this for just $18.99. Imagine how much handier this will make your iPod during those long drives.

PNY 2GB Flash Drive Enhanced for Vista ReadyBoost Just $1.99 After Rebate

Update October 10th -- a comment posted to this informaed me that the price has been raised to $11.99, so the post-rebate price is $6.99. Still a good deal, and I love what ReadyBoost has done to speed up my system.

Have a PC or laptop that runs Vista? If so, you know that it can be a performance and memory hog on your system. Some applications can run very slowly and trying to do many tasks at once can be a bear.

One feature that Vista has, though, is the capability of ReadyBoost. That allows you to utilize memory in a compatible USB Flash Drive to increase the usable RAM on your system. So you can effectively increase your system's capacity without adding to the memory inside your system.

Well, how would you like to pick up a 2GB Flash Drive that's enhanced for ReadyBoost for just $1.99 (after rebate)? Right now, Circuit City is selling the PNY 2GB Optima Pro Attache Enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost for $6.99, reduced already from $24.99. But for purchases by October 18th, there's a $5.00 mail-in rebate, bringing your final cost down to just $1.99.

That's a drop in the bucket for all the flash drive memory you get, as well as the ReadyBoost capability. Even if you don't need the ReadyBoost (if you're running some kind of system other than Vista), it's still a great price for a 2GB flash drive.

The ReadyBoost feature will double your current RAM up to the capacity of the USB drive, so if you have 1GB on your PC or laptop, using this would give you a total of 2GB, not 3GB. If you have a system with 2GB, it would give you a total of 4GB.

They don't have it available for delivery at the moment, but you can order it on-line and pick it up at your nearest Circuit City.

To take a look and maybe order one, click this link.

ReadyBoost your machine while you boost your savings.

Right Now, Save an Extra 8% Off Your Ebay Purchases on Almost Anything!

Update December 8th -- Well after fluctuating up and down a bit, the percentage today shows at 8% -- I have a feeling that's about where the normal level will be, and it may change occasionally for special occasions. But I also want to update that I have received the first of my Cashback ransactions put back into my PayPal account, so this system is on the level.

Update November 28th -- The percentage is up at 30% today, possibly as a Black Friday special.

Update October 27th -- The Cashback percentage is now sitting at 25%. Whether it will go back up to 30% is anyone's guess, but 25% is still a nice percentage to get back on an ebay Buy-It-Now/PayPal combo purchase.

Update October 11th -- I checked again today and the Cashback percentage is back up to 30%. So they seem to adjust this with no rhyme or reason. If you're looking for something on ebay and can Buy-It-Now and pay with Paypal, it's a great extra savings.

Update October 7th -- Microsoft's Cashback percentage for ebay purchases has dropped down to 20% right now. There's no way of knowing if it will change again soon, drop even further or what. Hopefully some of you took advantage of the 30%, but if you find a great deal on ebay using a Buy-It-Now + Paypal purchase, an extra 20% still makes it a better buy. The same instructions for getting the Cashback link still apply.

Microsoft has a buying service that gets you cash back on purchases at many stores, similar to ebates, about which I've written. I'll discuss the Microsoft Cashback system in more depth in a blog soon, but right now I want to alert you about a way that's going on now to save even more when you shop on ebay.

Microsoft has a promotion now within Cashback that gets you 30% off your ebay purchases on items that you use Buy-It-Now and which you pay for by Paypal. I'm not sure how long this high percentage will be in effect, but getting back almost one-third of your amount sounds like a nice way to maximize the good deals you can find on ebay. If you want to give it a try, here's the deal:
It's valid for anything on ebay except cars and real estate; not valid on express.ebay.com or half.ebay.com. Again, only Buy-It-Now purchases qualify, not auction-style purchases. You have to use the ebay Paypal links to make your payment, not use any third party checkout system.

You have to make your purchase within 60 minutes of starting that on-line purchasing session, and the Cashback deal applies only to the first item you buy that session. You can get back up to $200.00 per online session. You're allowed a maximum of six Cashback purchases via this ebay promotion, so if you want to buy a second item, you should start a new purchasing session after you buy the first item.

As you're checking out and getting ready to make your purchase, you see a green Cashback logo, and it even tells you how much you'll receive back. After you make your Buy-It-Now purchase and pay for it with Paypal, they send you a message with a button to click to claim your cashback amount.

The money shows up in your Microsoft Cashback account within a day or less, but the amount can't be withdrawn until 60 days after your purchase (to protect the system in case of returns). Setting up a Microsoft Cashback account is free, and just requires some Microsoft e-mail address -- if you don't have one, you can get one free using msn.com or hotmail.com.

The funny thing is, you can't find this promotion at the Cashback homepage which lists all their participating stores. Here's how you get it:

Go to http://www.live.com/. You'll see a search box. Type in Wii and hit the green search button. The page that opens will have some links inside a light blue box at the top, and one of the first ones should say "Wii - www.ebay.com - $ Live Search Cashback" and underneath it will say "Buy Wii. You may get 30% off with Paypal if eligible." Click on the Live Search Cashback link and it will open an ebay session and a search for Wii systems. At the top of the page you'll see a green rectangle that shows "$ Microsoft Cashback 30%."

Don't worry -- you don't have to buy a Wii, it's just one search that gets you into ebay with the eligibility to qualify for the 30% cashback bonus. Then you have an hour to search for items you might want to check, whether other electronics, clothes, dvds or whatever. As long as it's available to buy via Buy-It-Now and the seller accepts Paypal, it gets the bonus (except for the car/real estate restrictions -- or if the seller uses a third-party checkout system).

The conditions in full can be read here.

One of the obvious advantages of ebay is that you can often find name-brand items for less than you'd pay at stores. And this becomes a way to make your savings count even more. Let's say you find an item that retails for $169.00 but ebay sellers offer for $100. You could use this system and get an extra $30 back, making your final net just $70. The 30% could really make a decent bargain even a lot nicer.

Hey, if you found a big ticket item costing $666.66 or more, they'll give you back $200.00!

Again, since this is separate from the regular Cashback page and is a separate promotion it may not last long. So you may want to check it out quick, but remember it's limited to six Cashback transactions so use them on your bigger priced items for the most bang for your buck.

This Nextar has a 3.5 inch touch screen display, preloaded maps of 50 U.S. states (in 1GB SD card), 1.6 million points of interest and an address book to store up to 300 addresses. It does turn-by-turn prompts but doesn't have text-to-speech (it tells you where to turn but doesn't pronounce the name of the road). It has a speed alert capability, 2D or 3D map viewing, and Day and Night modes (Night mode features additional light on the screen for easier viewing).
