Hot Deals List Updated -- Let Me Know If Deals Expire

I spent a couple of hours last night going through all the deals posted in the Hot Deals listing at the right to see which ones were still valid and which had expired. That should be up to date now, so if you haven't taken advantage of some of the deals you might have missed, you can check them out while they're still good.

I tried to group older deals together in some sort of sense (i.e. all the free music samplers at the lower end, some kids' stuff together etc.).

Down the line, if you find deals I've posted which are expired, send me an e-mail at deals@dealreader.com so that I can pull them off the Hot List more quickly and keep everything more useful for everyone. Thanks.

Free Beech-Nut® Starter Kit

If you've got a baby or infant, you probably know how much things are going to cost so you hopefully have learned to use this blog to find ways to save on all sorts of things. You can save a bit on your child's food with this starter kit from Beech-Nut®.

They sign you up with a newsletter which will be filled with information and coupons. The site pictures the newsletter next to a container of Rice Milk and two jars of baby food -- whether the starter kit includes those in the mail, coupons for those to redeem or something else altogether is unclear.

But if you have a baby or infant, you probably could use any coupon you can reach. To sign up, click this link.

Free Six-Week Trial at Blockbuster by Mail®

If you like watching movies at home, you might want to consider joining a free trial at Blockbuster by Mail®. They have a variety of plans available where you can rent DVDs mailed to you (and with some plans, bring them into stores to exchange for others). And right now there's a promo code that extends the trial to six weeks.

The code works with the plan for two DVDs at a time plus up to five in-store exchanges. The regular rate for that plan is $16.99 a month, so this trial would save you about $25.00. You can always choose to continue it at the going rate but you can cancel by the end of the trial and have gotten all those rentals for free.

The deal is limited to one per household and for new customers only. If you have an account under one e-mail and address, you might be able to still participate under a different e-mail account and changed address spelling but that may not work.

To take part in the free trial, click this link. Then click to the lower right where it says "have a promotional code?" and on the line that opens type in the code: groupon.

You will have to provide credit card or paypal payment information but nothing is charged now. The information is to bill you for fees after the free trial is over (so if you want to just do the freebie, circle the right date on the calendar to cancel before it ends -- your receipt will show the next billing date).

I'm not sure how long this code is valid, so if this is up your alley, you may want to do this quickly.

Restaurant.com Promo Code - 80% Off All Orders Through August 31st

Well, it's getting toward the end of the month -- time flies -- and restaurant.com has upped their promo code discount to 80%, which is as big as it ever gets. The downside about waiting till late in the month is that some popular places have sold out of their certificates, but the ones that are there are available at a bargain.

However, as I've pointed out before, this is a great time to take advantage of the savings by doing their Dinner-of-the-Month Club. You get the big savings now, and you have certificates sent monthly that you can redeem at the start of a month so those popular restaurants are available. Plus you get a bonus certificate when you join that club making the total deal even better (the amount of the bonus depends on whether you join for 3-months, 6- or 12-months).

With this discount, a $25.00 certificate priced at $10.00 is just $2.00, and a $10.00 certificate drops from $4.00 to 80¢. For a three-month Dinner-of-the-Month Club you pay just $6.00 instead of $30.00 and you receive a bonus $10.00 certificate. A six-month club costs $12.00 instead of $60.00, plus comes with a bonus $25.00 certificate. And if you go for a year like I did, you pay just $24.00, getting twelve $25 certificates and a bonus $50.00 certificate. That's $350.00 of dining credit for just $24.00!

Each restaurant has its own restrictions, usually a minimum of a $35.00 food bill and/or two entrees for a $25.00 certificate to be used. They're good for a year, so you have plenty of flexibility. You can read more details at their website.

The promo code to enter at checkout for the 80% savings is TASTE. Remember to hit the 'apply' button so you see the savings in your cart before you place the order.

To head over to restaurant.com and look for restaurants that participate, click the link below.

AVG Internet Security Family Edition (3-Users, 2-Year Subscription) Free After Rebates

I've long maintained that keeping your PC defended against viruses, spyware etc. can be done at no cost if you pick up software times during free-after-rebate offers. Right now, Fry's is offering AVG Internet Security Family Edition (3-Users, 2-Year Subscription) for $80.00 with a pair of rebates (one of which is a competitive/upgrade offer) which total $80.00. Free shipping is included so that makes your bottom-line cost basically zero.

It's nice that some of the software providers are now including two years of updates rather than the one which was typical. I recently had BitDefender posted here with a free-after-rebate offer and theirs was two years as well. Plus, like many bits of software we're seeing lately, this is valid for putting on up to three PCs so you can protects your PC and the kids' too (all with one package making it easier to manage).

The shortest of the two rebates here expires August 27th, and if you have any other kind of security software installed, you can send it in as proof for the competitive section for the rebates.

As I've mentioned before, if you use a different manufacturer for PC protection (i.e. McAfee, Norton) you can also take advantage of this deal if you want to have this one available when one of those has a free after competitive rebate down the pike.

Free Sample of Drinkin' Mate™ Hangover Defense

I'm not a fan of drinking to excess and don't recommend anyone does, but if you might want to be prepared in case you do, you might want to carry around a free sample of Drinkin' Mate™ Tabs. They're supposed to make you feel better the next day.

The site indicates that alcohol introduces toxins and increases free radical activity in the body. Drinkin' Mate™ works by counteracting the free radicals, and helping the body to process alcohol more efficiently. Drinkin’ Mate™ helps to mitigate or prevent the effects of alcohol rather than act as a remedy. It defends against the headache, queasy stomach and dehydration that can result from alcohol consumption.

To check it out and request a free sample, click here.

But drink responsibly and don't drink and drive. Samples like this shouldn't be an excuse to overdo it.

Today 8/22: 47-Piece Cordless Rechargeable 250RPM 3.6V Electric Screwdriver/Drill Kit $9.99

If you're looking for a lightweight screwdriver/drill for some of those small jobs around the house, you may want to check out today's offer from Daily Steals. They are selling a 47-Piece Cordless Rechargeable 250RPM 3.6V Electric Screwdriver/Drill Kit for $9.99.

This isn't built to be a heavy-duty drill for those really heavy-duty jobs but it would still come in handy to make those smaller jobs a bit easier to complete.

This is a pocket-size and lightweight cordless reversible screwdriver with double insulated electric drill for driving and removing screws, nuts and bolts from wood, masonry and metal. It comes with and assortment of drill bits, screwdriver tips and nut drivers, and a chuck size of 1/4 inch. It weighs a bit more than a pound so it should be comfortable while you're holding it.

Again, I don't think this is meant to replace a regular drill if you're doing major work, but it could be a handy complementary tool for tight spots or light jobs.

Shipping is additional.

To take a look and see if this would be a nice addition to your tool chest (or just to keep in a kitchen drawer for quick access), click the link below.

Twelve Bottles of Wine and a Six-Bottle Wine Chiller $99.99 Plus $19.99 Shipping

If you like wine and want to pick up a nice variety along with a small chiller cabinet to keep the whites cool (or the reds temperature-controlled), you may want to check out the offer at WSJ Wines right now -- yes, WSJ means this offer is from the Wall Street Journal. They are offering an introductory offer for their Discovery Club, which includes twelve bottles of wine (you can choose all reds, all whites, or a mixed selection), tasting notes for each bottle, as well as a wine chiller with space for six bottles. The introductory offer is available for $99.99, plus $19.99 shipping (and tax if applicable).

The chiller alone would be worth about that much (they say it retails for $149 but I think you can find these for $100 if you shop around).

They will enroll you in their Discovery Club, which offers future purchases of wines, but there's no obligation that you have to buy any more in the future (unlike those music or DVD clubs where you get 12 CDs for 1¢ but have to buy four or six at regular club prices to fulfill you membership obligation).

They say the club gives access to small production wines hand-selected by expert buyers from quality producers in the US and elsewhere. Many of these wines will be exclusive. They say this will produce outstanding value at all times. Selecting on your behalf gives their wine buyers terrific leverage. And they have a satisfaction guarantee. If ever you don’t enjoy a wine, just tell them and they say they'll give you your money back.

You’re under absolutely no obligation to take any further cases. It’s always entirely up to you. And there are no membership fees. Every three months, Discovery Club will reserve another 12-bottle case for you. All will be premium wines from top quality producers in the US and elsewhere. They tell you in advance about the wines. If you’re happy with the selection, do nothing and they're delivered at a cost of $139.99 (plus shipping & tax) saving at least 20% on normal prices. If you prefer to miss a case, no problem, you simply let them know. You can ‘skip’ as many cases as you wish and are free to cancel at any time.

The offer is open to people 21 years or older and may be affected by local state regulations on wine sales. But to check it out, click this link.

Today: Hands-Free Alternative for Your Car -- Iconcepts Italk FM Transmitter and Hands-Free Device for Iphones and Some Other Cell Phones; MP3s Too

Driving around while talking on a handheld cell-phone is hazardous and is banned in various states. I believe New York City is having a 24-hour ticket crackdown on drivers who do this. But not everyone wants to stick one of those hands-free earphones in their ears while driving. Well, today's deal from Daily Steals may be worth checking out. It's a great price, but before you order one, check to make sure your cell phone is compatible.

Today they are selling the Italk FM Transmitter And Hands Free Mobile Phone Device by Iconcepts for $2.99. It retails for $49.99 so you are getting 94% off. This unit is compatible with Iphones 3G and 3GS, and other phones which have a 3.5 mm input jack. You can also use it to listen to your iPod, Zune or other mp3 player over a car radio so you aren't driving around with headsets, plus the whole family can share the tunes when you're together.

Listen to your tunes in your car with this digital FM transmitter, that has a built in microphone that can allow you to take phone calls through your car's audio system. Work with iPhone 3G and 3Gs, as well as all model iPods and mp3 Players. Also supports Mobile Phones with a 3.5 mm input jack.

It's rechargeable -- you need to use a mini usb cable to charge from any computer or ac wall adapter that has a usb 2.0 input (not included).

Easton 7-Foot Power Air Hockey Table $99.88 (75% Off)

This one isn't a cheap item, but if you want one of these, the discount makes it noteworthy. Toys 'R' Us%reg; is currently selling the Easton 7-foot Power Air Hockey Table for $99.88. This usually goes for $399.99 so it's a nice fat $300 off (75%).

Shipping is not inexpensive (about $140), so my suggestion if you are thinking of getting one is to call nearby Toys 'R' Us%reg; locations, see if they have it in stock and pick it up at the store.

The Easton 7-foot Power Hockey Table has an integrated speed rail for quicker puck response. It also has electronic, automatic scoreboards with sound. The table has quality leg support system for ultimate stability. It comes with pucks and pushers.

Even if you can't pick it up, the cost with shipping is still a deal compared to the regular price (especially when you add shipping to the regular price too), but the best deal is for those who can get one locally and bring it home.
