Update February 26th -- the discount taken off the starting price is no longer in effect. So the price is $32.99 less the $20.00 mail-in rebate, making these headphones $12.99.
I've written a post about flying more comfortably in coach -- after all, if you can make a coach trip a bit more comfortable, you can save the money of upgrading to business class. Or at least feel you've gotten to enjoy a better trip, vacation etc. so you feel like your money was better spent.
One of the ways I suggested to fly more comfortably was to bring along some noise canceling headphones. I've used them on many trips and they really do make a difference. First, they tone down the loud drone of the plane to a mild hum. Second, they eliminate most sounds of crying babies and other noisy passengers. And thirdly, they let you enjoy the in-flight movie, music or whatever entertainment you want to hear to make the time pass more easily.
Unless you're a really frequent flyer, I don't think it's worth investing in the very high-end headphones that can cost in the $250-$300 range. There are a number of good alternatives that can be had for much less, particularly if you shop around.
Right now, Dell is selling Kensington® Noise Canceling Cable Binaural Headphones reduced from $32.99 to $28.04. You can apply coupon code 2HR3NH394F2JM6 (valid till March 1st) and get free shipping on the order. And for purchases made by February 28th, there's a $20.00 mail-in rebate to bring the cost down to $8.04.
Kensington® Noise Canceling Headphones have a built-in microprocessor that analyzes background noises and creates an inverse sound wave to cancel the offending sound. Engines, fans, snoring, and other low frequency annoyances virtually disappear — leaving the traveler free to work, sleep, or listen to music more easily.
