Unless you're already into world music, chances are that you don't often get to add much to your music collection so you may not get exposed to some of these different sounds. But that makes free samplers so nice, in that you can download them and add them right in -- listen a few times and decide if you want to keep them in your collection. Right now, Amazon.com is offering a free six-track sampler from Strut.
Strut specializes in compilations featuring truly excellent globetrotting funkiness. The sampler is a compilation of those compilations -- sounds pretty amusing, described that way.
There's also a free 2009 Eenie Meenie Records sampler available, with eleven tracks.
The Strut sampler features:
- Masenqo, by Mulatu Astatke / The Heliocentrics
- Our Sound, by Guimaraes E O Grupo Som Sagrado
- Woman, by Sambo
- Babylon You Lose, by Horace Andy / Ashley Beedle
- Shango, by Peter King
- Yabis, by Sir Shina Peters & His International Stars
The one from Eenie Meenie features:
- Houses, by Great Northern
- Even The Sunbeams, by From Bubblegum To Sky
- Reversible, by Division Day
- Lay Down Your Weapons, by Scissors For Lefty
- T Rex, by Wallpaper
- Do I Know You, by Pine*Am
- Before I Lose My Style, by Space Needle
- Motorbike, by Goldenboy
- Crooked In the Weird of the Catacombs, by Oranger
- Jen, Nothing Matters To Me, by Irving
- The Tide, by Blue-Eyed Son
