I'm not sure if the people at Stanford University have a particularly unique taste in music, but iTunes has teamed up with them for a special collection of 30 songs specially picked by the iTunes team for Stanford.
They are doing this to encourage people to check out out Stanford on iTunes U. There are a wide range of Stanford courses, events, faculty lectures, student-produced music, films and much more -- all available as free downloads for your computer, iPod or iPhone. But there's no obligation here to do anything further if you don't wish to -- you can just download the summer mix for free.

Is there a problem with the Stanford link? I keep getting the message that this code can only be used once and does not work.
I clicked on the link I put on the blog, and it takes me to the http://itunes.stanford.edu/summermusicmix/ destination properly. I don't see any code you have to enter. When I click on the gray iTunes button near the bottom of that page, it takes me to iTunes to start downloading. I don't see any specific unique code involved.
If the link continues not to work, try copying/pasting the link into your browser: http://itunes.stanford.edu/summermusicmix/
Hopefully that will work!
John
It keeps putting in this code and telling me the it has already been used and can't be used again -
YKPPML4R77RE. Did you get a different code?
Where are you getting a place where there's a code? I haven't actually downloaded the tracks myself (don't have an iTunes account), but I haven't see where any code is entered.
