Newark to Belize $133.10 Roundtrip Including Taxes

Update October 27th -- this fare price has expired...

This is an unadvertised sale so I'm not sure how long this price will stay as low as it is at the moment. American Airlines is offering roundtrip airfare from Newark to Belize City for an incredible base fare of $60.00 roundtrip. Taxes, security and airport fees add on $73.10 making the cost of your roundtrip airfare an eye-popping $133.10. That's about $300-$400 less than the usual lowest airfares you'd find on this route.

Weekends and holidays are more expensive, but they have low fares available through June 2009. I was able to find this price on flights in late February and early May, and the best way to find the lowest prices is to use the flexible travel date search, which shows the price for all the dates in each month.

If Belize is a trip you might want to take, you might want to hurry over to aa.com. The code for Newark is EWR and for Belize City it's BZE.

This fare died on Sunday evening.
We were able to book and I wonder how aa was able to offer such a fare.
Was it a mistake? Was the Belizean government subsidizing aa? This was truly a crazy fare: $30 each way plus taxes and fees.

Congratulations on getting this great fare. Who knows how and why aa offered this fare? I doubt it was through the Government or else some tourism sites would have been coordinating the info. Airfares are a crazy array of lots of stuff; I was able to get penny airfares to Las Vegas and Florida once. On another flight to Europe, it cost less to fly to Paris and then on to Geneva than it cost to fly just to Paris. They must have reasons for this, so as smart shoppers, we just have to be on the lookout and be able to take advantage of deals when they arrive.

John: A few people are finding some low fares to BZE by searching other departure cities and using aa.com's flexible departure date feature. Not nearly as crazy as the $133.10, but some in Southern California are finding RT fares under $300, even during holiday travel blackout periods.
