Virgin America is a new airline that's been getting good reviews for performance. They have a very limited number of cities to which they fly -- only the very major markets: New York City (JFK), Los Angeles, Washington DC, San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas. They're well known for having lots of entertainment options, including MP3s, movies on demand, and even electric plugs at each seat so you can use your laptop without worrying about the battery.
Right now they are offering a promotion for a free coach companion ticket for flights through March 19th (with blackouts around the holidays unfortunately).
You should note that the promo doesn't quite get you two for the price of one. The second ticket is discounted by the base fare only, and I guess that doesn't include any fuel surcharges inside the cost of the ticket.
I was checking a fare from New York to Los Angeles, and without the promo code the fare would be $129 each way (before taxes and security fees), totalling $516 for two roundtrips (plus tax/fees). I expected that it would be $258 for the two roundtrips but when I entered the promo code and searched for flights, the same itinerary came back with a fare of $84.51 each, meaning the price for the two roundtrips was $338.04. Not quite as good, but still a nice price...
You need to have two people traveling together to take advantage. Go to this Virgin America Promo Page, and enter the cities, dates and put 2 in the number of passengers. You have to activate the promotional code, so click on "Got a Promo Code?" and type in DIGGNATION. Click on "apply" and the window should disappear, with the words Promo Code Applied now shown in red. Then you can click on "Search Flights" and let them show you your options. Read all the flight rules, as I would expect these to be non-refundable. Once you pick your flights, you'll even be able to reserve your seats on-line.
Hope this helps some of you out with future travel plans.
