Air France has announced new non-stop service from Los Angeles (LAX) to London, England (Heathrow - LHR) with a special introductory pricing of $222 each way! That's about as good as you can find deals from the East Coast, and you get the benefit of not stopping on the East Coast, changing planes, re-checking luggage, yada yada yada. So with the right dates you can get a roundtrip for $444! Of course, as with all airfares, those prices don't include airport and security fees, but one of the advantages of taking the non-stop is that you don't pay airport fees for multiple airports (the fares do include fuel surcharges, so at least that's not extra!).
AF061 and AF060 are the flights that go non-stop.
The introductory fare is valid for flights between March 3oth and May 24th, 2008. The lowest fares are for travel Mondays through Wednesdays; Thursdays through Sundays are slightly higher (about $30 each way). You have to stay over at least one Sunday, and there's a maximum stay of one month. You have to purchase these tickets by January 20th to get this low, low price.
The best dates will probably fill up quickly, so if you're in (or near) LA and want to take that European adventure, this may be a deal worth investigating!
And don't forget, once you get to England, you can tack on flights to other European destinations and make it more of a whirlwind tour. If you want to find discount airlines that would fly you from London elsewhere in Europe, you might want to check flylc.com. Read my blog post on their discount airline search.
