If you want to spend some time down under, Qantas has a sale going on with some low prices that might make it just a bit easier. They have one-way travel from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney for $265 each way. And if you are on the other side of the U.S., you can book Australian flights from New York (JFK) for $365 each way.
When you consider the distance, that's a lot of air miles for your dollar.
The fares are valid for travel between now and October 24th, and tickets have to be purchased no later than this Wednesday, April 15th. The prices include fuel surcharges, but airport and security fees and taxes are additional. But with these low starting prices, the final price can still be quite appetizing.
