Other Airfare Sale Options for Europe: Aer Lingus, Lufthansa

Also read my earlier post about airfare sales on British Airways if booked by November 13th.

A little while ago I posted about airfares to Europe on British Airways. They had some low fares, the possibility of a free stopover in London, and that fares to the non-London destinations were identical for each departure city. Those deals are quite good, but in doing a bit more looking, there are also special offers on Lufthansa and Aer Lingus. In some cases the British Air fares may be the lowest, but for some departure/destination combinations you could do better flying one of these other two carriers.

Keep in mind, you should compare the final price after all the airport/security fees since those can vary based on airports.

Lufthansa has fares as low as $197 each way from New York to London, and they have departures available from sixteen other U.S. cities. Besides London, destinations include Frankfurt, Madrid, Paris, Munich and Milan. Unlike the British Airways offer, each city pair has a different fare. In some cases you might be able to fly for less on Lufthansa.

For example, Seattle/London is available for $244, Seattle/Frankfurt for $268 and Seattle/Paris for $293, but the other Lufthansa destinations cost more than the same spots on British Air.

Likewise, Houston/Milan is available for $234, Houston/London for $241, Houston/Frankfurt for $256 and Houston/Munich for $288. But their Houston/Madrid ($315) and Houston/Paris ($348) is more than British Airways' $289.

These are one-way prices, and as mentioned the airport/security fees are additional.

And Travelocity is showing Aer Lingus with some special fares available as well. Some of them are higher than the British Airways and Lufthansa ones, but some others are really special and offer the best price.

For example, they show Chicago to Rome available at $381 roundtrip, compared to $558 roundtrip on British Airways. Chicago to Amsterdam roundtrip is $515 and to Paris is $521 on Aer Lingus but $558 on British. Yet British Airways is cheaper than Aer Lingus' prices for Chicago/Madrid or Chicago/Prague ($575).

Aer Lingus also has some great airfares if you want to visit Ireland, particularly from Washington, DC ($349 roundtrip).

The lowest airfares are weekdays, with weekend fares higher. The blackout dates for Aer Lingus are December 18th-25th; for Lufthansa it's December 12th-24th. Travel on Aer Lingus is through March 10th; for Lufthansa it's for departures through April 2nd.

Lufthansa must be booked by November 19th; Aer Lingus by November 30th.

I'm posting this to give you the most options if you're thinking of a trip to Europe. Depending on your departure point, you can compare these three (British, Lufthansa and Aer Lingus) and see how the numbers play out. As I mentioned, don't forget to check the comparisons after they've added in all the fees/taxes so you can see the real bottom-line prices.

London from $396 Roundtrip; Great Fares to Other European Cities on British Airways -- Book by November 13th

Before booking, see also my post about airfares on Lufthansa and Aer Lingus. Sometimes British Airways is the best but in some cases you can do better on one of those.

British Airways is introducing the new London Heathrow Terminal 5 and has a fare sale from 18 U.S. cities to Europe starting as low as $198 each way to London from New York (JFK or Newark).

But the nice thing about this sale is that they also have great special fares to many other European highlight cities, and they're all priced the same -- so whether you're flying on to Milan, Budapest, Vienna, or Geneva it's calculated at the same price.

For example, from New York, you can get to any of their listed European destinations for $239 each way. That means you can pick the city to which you want to travel without worrying about the fare impact.

These special fares have to be booked by November 13th and are good for travel Nov. 18 - Dec. 17 and from Dec. 24 - March 22.

They have fares listed from eighteen different US departure points, including New York (JFK or Newark), Boston, Baltimore, Atlanta, Miami, Orlando, Tampa, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, Dallas, Philadelphia, Houston, Phoenix, Washington, D.C., Chicago and Seattle. The fares from the West Coast are really attractive when you consider the cost of just flying across the country.

This sale includes destinations that regularly see discounts, such as Paris, Frankfurt and Rome, as well as cities that aren't usually on sale -- Brussels, Geneva, Amsterdam, Budapest, Berlin and Vienna. And you can even add a stopover in London at no additional cost.

Some of the one-way fares to London and Europe:
- Boston: $213-$259
- Baltimore: $218-$249
- Atlanta: $261-$269
- Miami: $269-$310
- Los Angeles: $279-$307
- San Francisco $279-$307
- Phoenix: $281-$299
- Seattle $292-$299
- Houston: $289

These fares include fuel surcharges but airport/security fees/taxes are additional.

You can even save an extra $20 roundtrip off these low prices by registering and logging in at ba.com before you book.

Remember, these prices are only valid through bookings completed by tomorrow the 13th. To check out dates, destinations and prices, click here.

Restaurant.com Promo Code - 60% Off Plus Bonus $10 Gift Certificate

Well, it's time for the latest promotional code from Restaurant.com. They've proven to be one of the most popular deals with readers who've given me feedback. The restaurant.com certificates allow people to try new restaurants for a bargain, or visit some of their favorite spots a bit more often.

Their certificates usually sell for $10.00 getting you $25.00 in dining credit at a participating restaurant. Some of the restaurants also sell $10.00 dining certificates good at lunch times, which usually cost $3.00. But every so often they issue promotional codes that let you get the certificates for even less.

Until November 13th, you can apply promo code HARVEST during checkout -- that'll not only drop the price of your certificate by 60% but it'll also entitle you to a free $10.00 certificate as a bonus!

That means for $4.00 you can get a $25.00 certificate plus a $10.00 one. For $1.20, you can get two $10.00 certificates. The bonus certificate is per order, so if you're planning to buy more than one certificate, do it as a separate order to qualify for a bonus with each one. The bonus certificate information comes to you in an e-mail after your order is processed.

And one more way to save... if you use ebates.com as the portal to get to restaurant.com, you can get back 15% of what you spend as an ebates bonus. So for $4.00 spent at restaurant.com, you would get your $25.00 certificate, the $10 bonus certificate, and 60¢ back from ebates, making it a net of $3.40. If you haven't joined ebates, read my blog post about them by clicking the link in the left column about ebates.

All that dining credit for so little...

Have some travels coming up on the future? Airlines, particularly international ones, have some strict limits on the size of carry-on bags. So I was looking for a bag that would be close to their size specifications, and came across a sale at Wilson Leather.

The Friends and Family 40% discount is valid through November 11th. The discount is automatic, no promo codes needed.

This carry-on bag features:
- Pebble leather with contrast trim
- Exterior zippered pocket on front, hide-away luggage tag on back
- 2 inline-style wheels
- Telescoping handle retracts flush with bag when not in use
- Top and side carry handles
- Interior elastic garment restraints
- Included key-operated padlock

They also have a number of other size bags on sale (matching 24" for $18 after discount and matching 28" for $24 after discount), but this carry-one was something particular that stood out.
For $12.00 delivered (plus sales tax), that's a pretty nice deal for a carry-on that will meet some of the stricter airline rules. If you want to take a look, click this link.
