A few weeks back I posted a deal from Hertz with a ridiculously low weekly rate if you picked up your car at designated locations in Florida and returned it at various out-of-state locations. Well, Thrifty has a similar deal going on, only their rate is even more bare bones -- just $1.00 per day to rent a mid-size car.
The purpose at their end is obviously to move cars inexpensively out of the Florida market when usage there declines. But if you can somehow take advantage and save money, why not?
The cars must be picked up at one of the following airport locations: Ft Lauderdale (FLL), Ft Myers (RSW), Miami (MIA), Orlando (MCO), Tampa (TPA) or West Palm Beach (PBI).
It then can be returned at any of the following airport locations up north: Chicago Midway (MDW), Chicago O'Hare (ORD), Cincinatti (CVG), Columbus (CMH), Dayton (DAY), Kansas City (MCI), Louisville (SDF) or Philadelphia (PHL).
These obviously are long drives, but they may make sense for some people who want to save a bit on traveling, have family they can visit along the way back north, etc.
The promotion is almost over -- the $1.00 price is valid from June 4th to June 25th, and a seven-day maximum is allowed at this rate. Other details can be read at their website.
